Details
The practical application of geothermal methods is seen as a key pillar for the global energy transition and the field has seen many efforts in the Netherlands by the government and industry alike. These range from small-scale applications aimed at homes and greenhouses to much large-scale applications such as the monitoring of an experimental geothermal well. While the upsides of geothermal energy are enticing, for example, its reduced impact on the environment and integration with existing infrastructure, there are many challenges to overcome. Geothermal
exploration can be very costly and the effect of a geothermal well on the seismicity in the area needs to be closely monitored, along with many other complications. In this session, we will focus on presenting a variety of geothermal applications that are being developed in the Netherlands and focus on how to overcome challenges like these and how the use of geothermal methods can be optimised in the Netherlands and abroad.
