In the last few years Northern Europe has positioned itself as a Hub for CCS projects driven by countries like Denmark, the Netherland, Norway and the UK. Projects like Northern Lights, Bifrost or Greensand, just to name a few, have marked important progress. Still, major challenges lie in scaling up these efforts rapidly enough to meet climate goals. Significantly more investment and development are required throughout the region. Several Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects around the world are facing delays due to various factors, including technical challenges, high costs, and regulatory hurdles. This growing resistance to reaching net-zero emissions means that some carbon capture technology pioneers are suffering financially and paring back plans. Initially expected in 2025, the European Commission has decided to push back its regulatory package for CO2 transport and storage infrastructure until next year, causing uncertainty for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. This session aims at gathering insights from a panel of experts acting at the different stages of the CCS value chain. Our guest panellists will share their view on risks sharing, alignment of the stakeholders, as well as other key issues related to scaling CCS and achieving net-zero goals.
