Dedicated Session OW: Geohazards and Geo-Engineering Challenges with offshore wind developments in frontier areas

Tracks
Offshore Wind
Thursday, October 30, 2025
1:50 PM - 3:30 PM
Tokyo Room

Details

The bulk of the offshore wind developments, at present lie within formerly glaciated margins, where bottom fixed foundations are the main concept. In this dedicated session, we will broaden our horizons to hear from speakers focusing on frontier areas (e.g., deepwater developments, seismically active margins, emerging markets around the Mediterranean, in Asia or South America), where a variety of unique geohazards and geo-engineering challenges may occur. Examples can include seabed mobility, scouring, seismicity (PSHA), submarine landsliding, turbidity currents, etc., which will have implications for the design, placement and installation of the different foundation concepts and anchors.
