Recent seismic events at the Rittershoffen geothermal site (France) led to the suspension of operations, highlighting the technical, economic and societal challenges associated with induced seismicity in deep geothermal projects. Similar situations have occurred at several European sites, raising questions about the long-term viability of geothermal exploitation in naturally fractured reservoirs. Beyond the scientific challenges, these events can have significant socio-economic impacts, including operational shutdowns, increased project risks, and reduced public acceptance.
