Well Monitoring of Seismicity and Deformation Within the INSIDE Project (Greater Munich Area)

2:10 PM - 2:30 PM

Biography

In 1998, Emmanuel Gaucher completed his PhD in Internal Geophysics at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (University Paris 7, Denis Diderot), which was focused on the seismicity induced at the Soultz-sous-Forêts (France) enhanced geothermal field. Since then, he is working on induced seismicity, starting within companies providing seismic monitoring services for oil and gas industry performing hydraulic fracturing: the first 2 years at CGGVeritas (England), where he developed software for processing induced seismicity and then, during 10 years, at Magnitude SAS (France), where he led the research and development department and carried out several field projects for oil and gas field operators (e.g. BP, Maersk, Total, KOC). End 2010, he joined the Division of Geothermal Research at KIT.
His current research topics are associated to the better understanding of the physical processes associated with the seismicity induced in geothermal reservoirs and to the development of processing methods to improve the use of induced seismicity as a tool for reservoir imaging and interpretation.

Drilling Induced Borehole Breakouts - New Insights From LWD Data Analysis

2:30 PM - 2:50 PM

Biography

Kai Stricker has studied Applied Geosciences at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Karlsruhe, Germany from 2012 until 2019, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in 2015 as well as his Master’s degree in 2019. 2018 he has additionally spent one semester abroad at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway. During his Master’s degree, he focused on Geothermal Energy, Petrophysics, Petroleum Geology, Numerics as well as Programming. He conducted his Master thesis about the utilization of image and drilling logs to assess the influence of drilling on borehole instabilities with Baker Hughes, a GE company in Celle, Germany. Currently he is working as a research scientist in the Department of Geothermal Energy at the Institute of Applied Geosciences at the KIT. During his studies, he additionally started to volunteer in the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He has co-founded a student university group at KIT and is currently continuing his voluntary work on a professional basis as publicity officer of the German Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (GSSPE).
