Dr Jan Henninges
Expert
Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE)
Vertical Seismic Profiling with Distributed Acoustic Sensing at the Groß Schönebeck Geothermal Research Site, NE-German Basin
10:30 AM - 10:50 AMBiography
Jan Henninges is a research scientist at GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. His research interests include monitoring of dynamic subsurface processes, in particular applying fiber-optic sensing techniques in boreholes. He holds a PhD degree in the field of applied geophysics from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany.
Dr Nestor Cuevas
Senior Geophysicist
Schlumberger Geosolutions
Surface-Borehole Electromagnetic Method - A Review on the Technology Development and Potential for Geothermal Applications
10:50 AM - 11:10 AMBiography
Dr. Cuevas completed his BSc in Physics from Universidad de Santiago, Chile and subsequently received his MSc (2007) and PhD (2009) in Geophysics, at the University of Berkeley in CA, where he developed theories to describe electromagnetic (EM) sources associated to Electrokinetic coupling in Hydraulic Fracture Propagation. Dr. Cuevas worked for Geodatos SAIC in Chile, were he performed dedicated research of Induced Polarization in measurements of Natural EM fields. He then (1995) joined ElectroMagnetic Instruments Inc (Berkeley CA), participating in numerous R&D projects for the development of instrumentation, sensors and processing techniques for Magnetotelluric data acquisition systems, seafloor EM measurements and cross well EM tomography. In 2003 Dr. Cuevas became a Schlumberger employee where he currently holds a Schlumberger Principal position as the Area Geophysicist for Electromagnetic methods, at the WesternGeco Geosolutions IEM Discovery Center in Milan, Italy. In this role, Dr. Cuevas supervises data acquisition, processing and modeling EM projects and is currently leading the research and development efforts for new Deep Look EM technologies, specifically for Surface-Borehole Electromagnetic methods. Dr. Cuevas publishes his work in International Geophysics Journals and conferences (EAGE, SEG), and he actively participates as a reviewer for Geophysics, Geophysical Prospecting and Geophysics Journal International.
Dr Stefan Wessling
Baker Hughes
New Developments in LWD and their Use in Oil, Gas and Geothermal Energy
11:10 AM - 11:30 AMBiography
Stefan Wessling graduated in Geophysics at Muenster University. In 2007 he obtained his doktor’s degree based on a Sino-German research initiative on the simulation of underground coal fires, which was conducted at the Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics (Hannover). After a short post doc position in geothermal energy, he continued research activities from 2008 on automating wellbore stability and associated workflows at Baker Hughes, a GE company. Since 2013, Stefan is assigned discipline lead for Geosciences Application Development and serves as technical lead for projects related to reservoir navigation services.
