Mapping uncertainty of petroleum system parameters using a Bayesian analysis: Application for constraining basin models

Biography

Constantin Sandu is a Geological Specialist at the Aramco Research Center in Houston, where he conducts research in quantitative geochemistry and geochemical modeling for petroleum, hydrogen, and carbon storage systems. His work focuses on modeling geochemical and geological processes that control hydrocarbon and other compounds generation, migration, accumulation, and alteration. He has about 20 years of petroleum exploration experience across basins in United States, Europe, Middle East and other areas, gained through roles with leading service and operating oil companies. His core expertise is in petroleum, hydrogen and carbon systems analysis, basin modeling, and probabilistic risk assessment. In his current role, he develops numerical algorithms to study subsurface hydrocarbon and inorganic compounds migration, and to apply Bayesian statistics analysis to exploration methods. Constantin earned a B.S. in Geological Engineering from the University of Bucharest, Romania, an M.S. in Geology from the University of Houston, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Rice University. His academic research area covered organic geochemistry applied to petroleum systems, geophysical fluid dynamics, and role of fluids in planetary evolution.
