Session I - Basin evolution and tectonics

Tuesday, November 17, 2026
8:10 AM - 9:54 AM

Speaker

Dr Jose Miguel Gorosabel Araus

Correlating the Aptian marine transgression along the Equatorial and South Atlantic margins

Biography

Dr. José Miguel Gorosabel is a Senior Researcher at the University of Houston with the Conjugate Basins, Tectonics and Hydrocarbons (CBTH) consortium. He holds an MSc from the Complutense University of Madrid and earned his PhD in Geology in 2020, focusing on the hydrocarbon potential of the southern Dominican Republic. His research centers on basin analysis and petroleum systems modeling across Atlantic margins, with a focus on the Equatorial Atlantic. Integrating geochemistry, seismic interpretation, and advanced basin modeling, Dr. Gorosabel evaluates source rock distribution, thermal maturation, and hydrocarbon generation in complex rifted and transform settings across Brazil, Nigeria, and Equatorial Guinea. An active presenter at major international conferences (AAPG IMAGE, EAGE, AAPG ICE), he serves on technical committees including the EAGE Conjugate Margins Conference and acts as faculty advisor for the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award team and EAGE Student Chapter, advancing multidisciplinary approaches to petroleum systems analysis in frontier basins.

Biography

Alcide Thebault
Exploration Product Manager
Beicip-Franlab

From Structural Evolution to Exploration Risk: Basin Modeling and Uncertainty Assessment in Deformed Basins

Biography

Alcide Thebault is a basin modeling expert at Beicip-Franlab and the current General Manager of the affiliate for the United States and South America. He is in charge of developing the business and creating synergies in these areas, as well as being the account manager of local clients. Prior to this position, he was leading the basin evaluation and modeling team within Beicip-Franlab for both consulting activities & exploration software design. He also was previously in charge of the developments of Beicip-Franlab’s software suite for petroleum exploration. Alcide is also part of the technical sales team focusing on basin modeling solutions. He is also involved in implementing new methodologies and ideas to benefit from basin modeling’s technology for Oil & Gas and the energy transition, including geothermal exploration and carbon storage.
Dr Garry Karner
ExxonMobil

Delaware Basin development: QBA modeling and regional geological implications

Biography

Garry has had an extensive geoscience career beginning as a young graduate from Flinder's University working at the Australian Bureau of Mineral Resources, followed by a Ph.D. program at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory that expanded into a twenty-year research career, and finally, a 20-year career with ExxonMobil. Garry’s business role with ExxonMobil has been to develop innovative, business-applicable and scientifically supported exploration solutions in highly challenged frontier margin settings using quantitative modeling of basin-formation processes and a geo-logic approach to seismic interpretation and regional geologic and tectonic integration.
