Petroleum Development Oman

Integrated 3D Basin Modeling Reveals Hydrocarbon Charge Controls on Prospectivity in the South Oman Salt Basin

Biography

Sabra Al Shaqsi is a Basin Modeler Geochemist at Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), with nine years of experience in basin modeling and petroleum geochemistry. Since joining PDO in 2017, she has worked extensively on basin modeling across North and South Oman, integrating basin modeling and geochemical insights with exploration workflows to improve petroleum systems understanding and de-risk hydrocarbon charge. Her technical expertise includes basin modeling, petroleum systems analysis, hydrocarbon generation and migration, and petroleum geochemistry. She has been actively involved in developing and updating the North and South Oman basin models, integrating multidisciplinary datasets and workflows to improve the understanding of hydrocarbon charge and exploration risk. Her work has contributed to establishing a working and updated basin model covering the entire Block 6. Sabra holds a BSc in Geoscience from the German University of Technology in Oman, obtained in 2016, and an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience for Exploration from the University of Manchester, obtained in 2017. Her professional interests focus on applying innovative basin modeling, geochemistry, and digital technologies to enhance petroleum systems understanding and support exploration decision-making
