10:40 AM - 12:25 PM

Speaker

Dr Jose Miguel Gorosabel Araus

Towards a continuous 3D basin model of the South American Atlantic Margin: from Guyana to Uruguay

Biography

Dr. José Miguel Gorosabel is a Senior Researcher at the University of Houston with the Conjugate Basins, Tectonics and Hydrocarbons (CBTH) consortium. He holds an MSc from the Complutense University of Madrid and earned his PhD in Geology in 2020, focusing on the hydrocarbon potential of the southern Dominican Republic. His research centers on basin analysis and petroleum systems modeling across Atlantic margins, with a focus on the Equatorial Atlantic. Integrating geochemistry, seismic interpretation, and advanced basin modeling, Dr. Gorosabel evaluates source rock distribution, thermal maturation, and hydrocarbon generation in complex rifted and transform settings across Brazil, Nigeria, and Equatorial Guinea. An active presenter at major international conferences (AAPG IMAGE, EAGE, AAPG ICE), he serves on technical committees including the EAGE Conjugate Margins Conference and acts as faculty advisor for the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award team and EAGE Student Chapter, advancing multidisciplinary approaches to petroleum systems analysis in frontier basins.
Dr Jeffrey Kraus
Geoscientist
Exxonmobil

The Early Jurassic Central Atlantic: Oceanic basin restriction below global sea level

Biography

Currently Senior Geoscience Advisor in ExxonMobil’s Global Geothermal Exploration team. He has more than 30 years of experience across exploration, development, production, and research. His primary focus has been applying tectonostratigraphic principles to basin formation and evolution in frontier settings. He holds degrees in Geology from Cornell College and the University of Texas at Arlington.
Dr Stephen Anthony Clark
Leading Advisor Petroleum Systems
Equinor

Impact of Early Cretaceous rifting on the timing and distribution of charge in Flemish Pass Basin

Biography

Stephen A. "Stoney” Clark is the Leading Advisor in Petroleum Systems at Equinor, where he provides technical leadership in petroleum systems and subsurface evaluation. Over a career spanning more than 25 years in industry and academia, he has worked across exploration geophysics, basin tectonics, petroleum systems modelling, and exploration risk assessment. Prior to his current role, Stoney led Equinor's Filling the Reservoirs research portfolio and spent eight years as a Principal Researcher focused on advancing the predictive power of basin and petroleum systems modelling. Before joining Equinor, he conducted research on crustal architecture and basin dynamics at the University of Oslo, and held geophysicist positions with BP in Anchorage, Stavanger, and Houston. Stoney holds a PhD in Geophysics from Rice University and an MS in Geological Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin. His work bridges fundamental geoscience and practical exploration challenges, with a particular focus on understanding the geological processes that control hydrocarbon generation, migration, and accumulation. He is passionate about cross-disciplinary subsurface integration and emerging technologies to improve exploration prediction and decision-making.
