Norwegian seabed mineral potential and AI-assisted impact assessment
11:25 AM - 11:54 AMBiography
Dr. Ebbe H. Hartz has dedicated half of his career to academia, leading geological fieldwork in some of the world’s most remote regions and studying rocks ranging from Earth's mantle to surface sediments. With over 50 publications spanning natural and computational sciences, his research focuses on responsible resource extraction, including hydrocarbons and minerals. Passionate about science communication, he has authored a book and produced TV programs aimed at engaging children with natural science. Since transitioning to industry, Dr. Hartz has contributed to major oil discoveries, promoted safe operations, and involved with long-term strategic initiatives. Currently, he leads Aker BP’s resource and environmental impact assessments of seabed minerals, helping the company—Norway’s second largest oil producer—evaluate the economic and environmental viability of this emerging resource.
