Will Geotechnical Engineers ever trust geophysical data? This open forum is designed to generate quality discussion on the progress made to integrate geotechnical and geophysical data more effectively, to better inform foundation design and become more efficient in the process. There are genuine engineering problems that geophysicists currently struggle to provide data to image sufficiently, or cost-effectively (e.g. buried boulders, extensive areas of gas). In this forum, we will explore some of these challenges, review the current state of the art in terms of acquisition tools, processing and analysis techniques, and explore the potential impacts of machine learning and automation. Potential outcomes of the forum would be defining a way-forward for the Site Investigation Community, and identify opportunities for R&D projects, JV’s and Lessons sharing.
