Mr. Omar Chaabi is a PhD candidate in the department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, UAE. His research interests include multiscale simulation, linear and nonlinear solvers, and numerical methods. He holds BSc and MSc degrees in Petroleum Engineering from Khalifa University.

Biography

Obinna has a reservoir engineering background and currently works within the Operated Offshore Assets Studies Division of QatarEnergy. He has 25 years post-graduation experience and is currently focused on conducting/leading a range of asset optimization studies that aim to maximize hydrocarbon recovery and further extend asset life. He has authored/co-authored several technical publications, including SPE papers.

QASR Reservoir Simulator: From Research Proposal to the Road of Commercialization

Biography

Ahmad Abushaikha is Associate Professor at Division of Sustainable Development at Hamad Bin Khalifa University. He received his BS in Petroleum Engineering and his BA in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. In 2006, he received his MS in Reservoir Geosciences and Engineering from "Institut Français du Pétrole". From 2007 to 2009, he worked at TOTAL Research Centre at Pau, France and at Qatar Petroleum. In 2014, he received his PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London. From 2015 to 2017, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Stanford University. He has more than 80 international publications and has significant expertise in areas like reservoir simulation, enhanced recovery mechanisms and machine learning. Currently, he leads the QASR research group, which is pioneering in modelling and simulation of subsurface hydrocarbon reservoirs in the region.
