Join SCCS for a guided walking tour to see the places where Carbon Dioxide (CO2) was first discovered and named in the world, right in the heart of Edinburgh. The short tour will take around one hour, with an optional self-guided extension taking an additional hour.
We will begin at ECCI, the home of SCCS, before moving on to Old College at The University of Edinburgh, the site of Professor Joseph Black’s laboratory. We will then visit the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street to see some actual laboratory glassware used by Black to make CO2, before making our way to Black’s final resting place at Greyfriar’s Kirk.
