EAGE Student Webinar on Integration of Geoscientific Information in Geothermal Exploration Using GIS by Rosa Maria Prol Ledesma

The combination of geological, geochemical and geophysical parameters, in addition to tectonic evolution, helps to identify the effects of the heat source on the values of the surface heat flux, the thermal and stress regime, the groundwater dynamics and the geological structures (faults and fractures) related to permeability. These parameters are integrated in the form of thematic maps using different models using Geographic Information Systems. Each data package is assigned a weight based on its relevance to the identification of geothermal potential within a specific geographic area. Its application has proven to be an effective, flexible, scalable, and objective methodology for the integration of multiple databases; reducing the risk and allowing a better understanding of the favorability of certain areas to be potential zones of advanced geothermal exploration and to identify the presence and magnitude of geothermal resources. This presentation will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the different data integration models for geothermal exploration.
