Masterclass Description

This 4 day masterclass focuses on delivering insights for a practical, end-to-end workflows for characterizing complex carbonate and deep-water reservoirs. Through real world exercises and field scale demonstrations, you will master your understanding on carbonate facies analysis, sequence stratigraphy, pore system evolution, and deep-water architectural modeling. The Masterclass will give you the tools you need to bridge the gap between core, seismic, and 3D models to drastically reduce subsurface uncertainty and de-risk exploration and production targets.

By attending this Masterclass you will be able to:
  • Analyze Carbonate Depositional Systems: Reconstruct environmental controls, facies architecture, and sequence stratigraphy at the field scale.
  • Evaluate Pore System Evolution: Unravel depositional textures and diagenetic modifications to predict reservoir quality and improve 3D volumetric assessments.
  • Understand Deep-Water Frontier Assets: Apply sub-bed and outcrop architectural analysis to reduce uncertainty across reservoir presence, deliverability, seal, and trap.

Sedimentological Characterization of Carbonate Rocks

  • Understanding of a carbonate system, including the major controls on carbonate production;
  • Appreciation of the heterogeneous nature of carbonate sediments and how this may impact predictability variations within the subsurface;
  • Understanding of the techniques used to apply a sequence stratigraphic framework in a typical carbonate succession, and hence the impact on reservoir quality prediction.

  • Determine how specific sedimentological parameters and diagenetic process impact reservoir quality;

  • Upscaling of reservoir quality data to aid prediction at the field scale.

  • Describe transport and depositional processes of deep-water strata including turbidites, debrites, and transitional to hybrid flow type deposits.
  • Understand the different types of marine depositional environments and their implications to petroleum reservoir architecture and reservoir quality.
  • Understand and interpret modern and ancient marine depositional systems.
  • Characterize marine stratigraphy and build relationships with depositional environments using outcrop, core, and other oil and gas industry data.
