EAGE Asia Pacific Workshop on CO2 Geological Storage

23 - 25 August 2022 | Perth, Australia

About the Workshop

Geological storage of CO2 is an enabler of a wide variety of business models more aligned with a Decarbonization of the Energy market. Multiple organizations and governments are committed to Net Zero emissions by 2050 or earlier. The number of commitments are expected to increase exponentially after the recent IPCC report on Climate Change, which will likely result in an increasing demand of geosciences and subsurface expertise through the whole maturation process from CO2 storage prospectivity to marketable volumes.

CO2 injection and (partial) sequestration has already been implemented into the production lifecycle of some hydrocarbon fields as part of EOR projects. However, depleted oil/gas fields may not be the most suitable storage sites in terms of storage capacity and scalability, as well as containment risks or costs. On the other hand, saline aquifers around the world seem to have great potential for CO2 sequestration, but represent a challenge to the industry which has traditionally focused on the extraction of hydrocarbons.
