Started career with PETRONAS 12 years ago as a Reservoir Engineer and has been involved in multiple projects covering Reservoir Studies, Reservoir Development and Surveillance. Amongst others, experiences include attachments to Baram Delta Field Development Plan (FDP) and Myanmar Operations. Since late 2019, joined Sarawak Gas as the Manager for Kumang Cluster and SK316 PSC, and directly involved in the Kasawari Carbon Capture & Sequestration (CCS) project as FDP Team Lead. Beyond this, also involved in CCS Enterprise Lab Team and recently been appointed as Head, Subsurface for CCS in the newly set-up Carbon Management Division.

Dominique Van Gent

Dominique worked in Regional Development assisting the resources industry on major projects; on the development of industrial areas; and on infrastructure issues. He played a key role in establishing local content strategies that maximised opportunities for regional firms on the construction of major projects. He has a long-term interest in industrial development and is a former chair of the Small Business Centre in Bunbury. He has found that his MBA has developed his understanding of the economic, cultural and business drivers of industry.

As the Coordinator of Carbon Strategy with the Department of Mines and Petroleum in Western Australia, Dominique was responsible for the development and management South West Hub project which characterised the potential of on-shore CO2 storage area in the Shire of Harvey in the South West of Western Australia. The project conducted a 2D seismic survey, Australia’s most complex 3D seismic (over 115 square kilometres of rural and environmentally sensitive land) and drilled four wells between 1,450 metres and 2,945 metres in depth.Dominique brings many years of community engagement experience to the task of exploration and characterisation of an on-shore CCS field.

Dr. Nick Hoffman

Nick has a Ph.D in Geophysics from Cambridge University, over 25 years’ international oil industry experience, including BP in Europe, BHP in Australia and worldwide, and leading a petroleum consultancy. He joined CarbonNet in 2011 as part of the start-up technical team to spearhead the geoscience evaluation over CarbonNet’s portfolio of nearshore CO2 sequestration targets, including roles as the subsurface lead and geoscience manager during the acquisition of Australia’s first marine CCS  survey and the drilling of an appraisal well at the proposed Pelican storage site in shallow water, offshore Gippsland.

Nick integrates a wide range of seismic, well, and basin data to understand the implications for long-term safe CO2 storage. He has a particular interest in the interaction of faults and seals in the context of CO2 storage and hydrocarbon migration. He has developed CarbonNet’s 3D probabilistic approach to forecasting fluid distribution in the subsurface,  CarbonNet’s principles of safe geomechanical operation for large-volume fluid injection operations, and drafted the main technical text of CarbonNet’s preliminary application for Declaration of an Identified Greenhouse Gas Storage Formation for the Pelican site.
