Course Description

The course reviews the theoretical basis for extracting parameters for velocity modelling. Subsequently, several techniques are discussed and applied to the construction of layer-cake based velocity models.

Course Objectives

The main objective of the course is to guide the interpreter to estimate the parameters needed to describe velocity models based on existing well data and on velocities obtained from seismic processing.

Course Outline/Schedule

  • Review of the concept of “velocity“
  • Different aspects of the term “velocity“
  • Definition of parameters describing the velocity behaviour by layers
  • Integration of well velocities and seismic velocities
  • Assembling velocity models

Participants’ Profile

Geologists and/or geophysicists engaged in reservoir interpretation and characterization work.
