Workshops

Maximize your experience at the 9th Conjugate Margins Conference by joining our interactive workshops on July 27, 2026. These sessions provide a unique opportunity to gain the new skills, insights, and knowledge key to developing your academic or professional profile. Customize your schedule by selecting one or both workshops:

Workshop AM: Atlantic Conjugate Margins Seismic Revelations Workshop

Venue: Delta Hotels St. John's Conference Centre

Date: Jul 27, 2026

Convenors:

Karyna Rodriguez (Searcher)

Stephen Whidden (TGS)

Using recently acquired 3D data, the first part of the workshop will include an Orange Basin to Pelotas Basin seismic correlation to analyze similarities and differences between the two margins and identify the elements which can be used from the discoveries in the Orange Basin to de-risk the frontier Pelotas Basin in southern Brazil. Next, the Equatorial Margins of Brazil and West Africa will be compared using the latest 3D data acquired in Northern Brazil. And lastly, the workshop will move to the North Atlantic where data from the host Newfoundland Province will be shared to identify key elements of the petroleum system in the exploration hot spots.

Basin Evolution and Deepwater Play Fairways Across the Equatorial Atlantic Conjugate Margins - Kyle Reuber & Henri Houllevigue (TGS)

This study presents the basin evolution and deepwater exploration potential across the Equatorial Atlantic conjugate margins using modern seismic data.

  •  The equatorial region opened via right-lateral pull-apart basins as the West African and Amazonian Cratons separated, connecting the Central and South Atlantic.
  • Margin segments alternate between divergent and transform types, with pre-existing basement architecture driving asymmetric crustal thinning.
  • Early marine sedimentary fill shows consistent thickness and seismic character across conjugate profiles.
These results provide strong evidence of passive margin deepwater clastic systems, positioning the Equatorial Atlantic as a prospective deepwater exploration frontier.
