Joan F. Flinch is currently Senior Exploration Geoscientist at GeoPark, before he was a Senior Consultantfor Elsevier and Independent consultant working for Latin American energy companies. Beforebecoming an Independent Consultant, he spent 17 years at Repsol where he held the positions of NewVentures and Asset Manager for West Africa in Madrid, Latin America New Ventures and GeologyManager in Houston and Geoscience Discipline Manager and Exploration Quality Advisor in Madrid. Heworked from 1997 to 2004 for Total, now Total Energies in Paris and Pau, France. From 1994 to 1997 hewas a consultant geologist for Lagoven (former PDVSA Affiliate Company) out of Caracas, Venezuela.Joan received his B. S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Barcelona, Spain in 1988 and 1990respectively. His M.S. thesis focused on the structural mapping of the southern Pyrenees. He enrolled inthe Geology and Geophysics Department at Rice University, receiving his Ph.D. in 1994, with thedissertation “Structural Evolution of the Gibraltar Arc” directed by Professor A. W. Bally. Joan has givennumerous presentations in conferences and has published several papers on the structural geology ofthe Pyrenees, the structural geology and sequence stratigraphy of the Moroccan Rif, the allochthonoussalt of the Betic Cordillera in Spain, the Northern Colombia Accretionary Prism, the Eastern Venezuelanfold-and-thrust belt, the Gulf of Paria in Trinidad and Venezuela, the Bolivia Sub-Andean region, and theSierra Leone-Liberia continental margin in West Africa. He has made several presentations on naturalhydrogen, geothermal energy and hydrogen storage in the context of energy transition. He has alsobeen teaching several courses on Seismic interpretation and deep-water plays and running geologicalfield trips in Spain.
