EAGE Workshop on Mobile Shales: Understanding Processes, Imaging, and Risks

7 - 9 October 2026 | Bucharest, Romania

Bucharest, Romania

Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is a vibrant city where tradition meets modern engineering challenges. For geoengineers, it offers an excellent environment to study and work, particularly in relation to the complex geology of the region. The subsurface around Bucharest includes soft clays and mobile shales, which present unique geotechnical conditions for foundation design, slope stability, and underground construction. These materials require advanced understanding of soil–structure interaction and innovative stabilization techniques. With ongoing infrastructure projects—such as metro expansions, high-rise developments, and road networks—Bucharest provides ample opportunities for geoengineers to apply and refine their expertise in dealing with mobile shales and other challenging ground conditions.
