Sulamith Kastl is physical geographer working for the Federal Institute for
Geosciences and Natural Resources BGR (Germany) since 2011. She started in the
field as a GIS Expert in the environmental urban planning project ORDAZUR in
Paraguay and has been working in different development cooperation projects of
BGR ever since. Since 2017, she is leading the regional cooperation of BGR for
geothermal energy in Centralamerica, which aims to strengthen geoscientific
capacities in the SICA region for the identification of geothermal energy resources.
Since 2020, the work concentrates in the identification of geothermal potential for
local community development, especially focusing on the mapping of hot springs and
the potential applications for direct use. Sulamith is active member of the IGA UNFC
ad-hoc Committee for the actualization of the UNFC geothermal Specifications.
