Emily Kay
Principal Geoscientist, TGS
Keynote: Imaging and Interpretation of Complex Mobile Shales: Case Study Offshore Nigeria
Emily Kay is a Principal Geoscientist at TGS with 14 years of experience in seismic interpretation, regional basin evaluation, and exploration geoscience. She holds an MSc in Integrated Petroleum Geoscience from the University of Aberdeen and has worked with PGS, ION, and TGS. As Technical Lead for TGS's Eastern Hemisphere Geoscience team, she leads geoscience activities across key West African basins. Her expertise includes basin evolution, prospectivity assessment, and the application of advanced geoscience workflows to reduce exploration risk and support exploration success.
Chris Morley, Ph.D.
Keynote: Shale ‘mobility’: An outcrop oriented perspective on geometries, mechanics and seismic interpretation
Chris Morley received his Ph.D. in 1983 before working for Amoco, Elf Aquitaine, the University of Brunei Darussalam, and PTTEP. He is now retired. Throughout his career, he worked as an exploration geologist, structural geologist, and senior geophysicist in East Africa, Morocco, the Norwegian Caledonides, the Carpathians, northwest Borneo, Thailand, and Southeast Asia. He has published more than 240 peer-reviewed articles in international journals and special publications.
This year, Chris was awarded the William Smith Medal by the Geological Society of London in recognition of his contributions to the geosciences.
Chris has worked extensively on mobile shale provinces in the Niger Delta, northwest Borneo, and the Moroccan Rif, as well as on shale detachments in several fold-and-thrust belts.
Keynote ;Most of our understanding of mobile shales, outside of mud volcanoes, comes from subsurface data. This keynote explores how rare outcrop examples provide different and complementary perspectives on the morphology and mechanics of mobile shale features, while also examining how "mobile" shales are defined.

Keynote: Origin of Suprasalt Mobile Shales in the Northern Gulf of Mexico, USA
Mike Hudec has been co-Principal Investigator of the Applied Geodynamics Laboratory (AGL) at the Bureau of Economic Geology, UT Austin for the past 20 years, first with Martin Jackson and now with Tim Dooley. Mike is a structural geologist, specializing in salt tectonics and mobile shales. Most recently, Mike has been collaborating with TGS, using some of their OBN/eFWI seismic data in the northern Gulf of Mexico to investigate the origins of mobile shales in the supracanopy section. This work forms the basis of Mike’s keynote address at the EAGE Workshop on Mobile Shales, which we hope will be the first of many studies to use the high-resolution velocity models and incredible imaging characteristic of these data to build a more complete understanding of shale mobilization.
