Distinguished Advisor BHP

Reza Fassihi has over 38 years of experience in research, development, and field application of Reservoir Management. He is currently working forBHP Petroleum in Houston where, as a Distinguished Advisor, he isresponsible for assurance on global subsurface projects, transferring newtechnologies and IOR applications. He was previously the Unconventional Oil Technology Manager at BP and prior to that, he held many position sworking for BP, Amoco and Arco. His body of work, as indicated through 40+ publications, has covered many topics including: Thermal Recovery, Rock & Fluid Characterization, Reservoir Description and Dynamics, Management of Challenging Reservoirs, Primary production, water flooding and EOR. He has been involved in teaching such topics internally and externally and has been a PhD external Examiner in many universities.

Reza was the winner of the best paper at the 1981 Student Paper contest in PhD division, best paper award at the 1988 CIM Meeting, and was elected as a SPE Distinguished Lecturer in 2003-2004. In 2018, he was awarded the SPE IOR Pioneer Award. He also received the SPE Distinguished Member Award at the 2018 ATCE meeting in Dallas. Rezais involved in many SPE activities including an Executive Editor for SPEJ, and a member ofthe Tulsa SPE IOR Technical Committee. Reza is the co-author of a new SPE Monograph with prof. Kovscek of Stanford University on “Low Energy Processes for Unconventional-Oil Recovery” published in 2017. Reza holds a BS (1976) in General Engineering from Abadan Institute of Technology in Iran, an MS in Chemical Engineering (1977) and a PhD in Petroleum Engineering (1981) both from Stanford University in California.

Eric Delamaide, P.Eng.

He has received awards for outstanding servics as Technical Editor for SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering every year between 2014-2019 as well as one for SPE Journal in 2016. He received the SPE Canadian Region Service Award in 2018 and the SPE Distinguished Member Award in 2019.

Mehdi Izadi, Ph.D.
Technical Authority in Reservoir Simulation Discipline
ECOPETROL

Mehdi Izadi is a Senior Reservoir Engineer with more than 15 years of experience in reservoir simulation and EOR technologies. Mehdi holds a Ph.D. and MSc. degree in petroleum engineering from Colorado School of Mines, United States of America. He is currently a senior reservoir engineer and technical authority in reservoir simulation discipline in the department of reservoir and recovery technologies in Ecopetrol. He is in charge of technical assurance of reservoir simulation and modeling department in Ecopetrol, more specifically, defining guidelines and standards for dynamic modeling discipline, defining the technological route map as well as provide the training plans and develop the respective successors within simulation discipline.

Mehdi has published over 20 papers on reservoir engineering and Chemical EOR, he has contributed to many EOR field design and evaluation for the complete chemical EOR portfolio of technologies which include polymer flooding, polymer gel systems, BrightWater® and surfactant-based methods such as surfactant-polymer (SP), alkaline-surfactant-polymer (ASP) and foam. He also has been teaching industrial courses and providing onsite training on chemical EOR simulation for the vast majority of oil companies such as Ecopetrol, YPF, BP, OXY, ENI, AIOC, Pluspetrol, and Tullow Oil Company. Mehdi has developed methodologies for modeling chemical processes and provides project design support and post-project evaluation for various fields. He also developed and designed various experimental protocols to determine mechanisms and parameters for use in project simulations and modeling. In addition to EOR experience, He has strong technical expertise in compositional simulation and PVT analysis, well testing, reserve estimation, property evaluations, and IOR/EOR recovery processes. He developed an analytical model for simulating the flow inside a naturally fractured reservoir. Also developed a 3-D, multi-phase water flood simulator and solvent (CO2 or N2) that is dually compatible with water alternative gas injection (WAG) recovery processes.
