Dr. Weijermars conducts original research in petroleum engineering to develop new tools and methods related to the quantification and visualization of (1) fluid flow in porous media, and (2) fracture propagation. He has developed new production forecasting tools and reserves estimation methods to support industry, with a heavy focus on unconventional resource development. Prior to joining KFUPM in 2021, Weijermars worked at Texas A&M University and the Bureau of Economic Geology, UT Texas at Austin — he was a postdoc at ETH Zurich in the late 1980s.

Khaled Arouri is Senior Geological Consultant at Saudi Aramco’s EXPEC Advanced Research Center, leading projects towards developing geochemical solutions to improve oil and gas exploration and field development. He served as the International SPE Distinguished Lecturer for the 2019-2020 season on fluid geochemistry, covering a number of SPE sections around the world, campaigning for the importance of integrating fluid geochemistry and PVT within proper geological context1. With his team, Khaled won Aramco’s CEO Excellence Award (2017), Effective Publications Award (multiple years), Best Mentor Award (multiple years), and the 2017 World Oil Award co-finalist for Best Exploration Technology. He holds PhD (1996) in petroleum geochemistry & basin modeling from the Australian School of Petroleum, Adelaide University, followed by postdoctoral fellowships and consultancy in Australia until 2004, Assistant Professor and Research Coordinator at UAE University (2004-2005), before joining Saudi Aramco in 2005. He authored and coauthored over 120 technical papers in international journals, special volumes, conferences and patents, and served on many regional and international conference and workshop committees, including keynotes. A member of AAPG, SPE, EAGE, and European Association of Organic Geochemists EAOG.
