First EAGE Rock Physics Workshop in Latin America

1-2 December 2021 / Online

Welcome to the First EAGE Rock Physics Workshop in Latin America

We are excited to announce the First EAGE Rock Physics Workshop in Latin America that will take place as a fully Online format from 1-2 December 2021. Rock Physics has been an important discipline integrating many fields, such as geology, geophysics, petrophysics, mining and several others. Its role in the oil industry has been fundamental to its development and success.

The First EAGE Workshop of Rock Physics in Latin America aims to encourage geoscientists, reservoir engineers and related professionals to take advantage of a friendly environment to discuss the current state of Rock Physics serving science and industry to promote new advances and obtain more accurate results in their forecasts.

Meet our Invited Speaker

Dr. Andres Mantilla

Andrés is a Petroleum Engineer from the Universidad Industrial de Santander, with a master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Stanford University. With more than 26 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry, Andrés is a specialist in subsurface data integration and modelling, and technology management.

His professional career includes leading technical teams and technology application projects related to oil and gas exploration, field development planning, and the valuation of farm in, acquisition, and divestment opportunities. Andrés has also led technology development projects, technical support teams and commercialisation activities for oil, biofuels, advanced materials, and environmental service technologies.

Meet our Keynote Speakers

Dr. Tapan Mukerji

Professor (Research) in the Department of Energy Resources Engineering and by courtesy of Geophysics and GeologicalSciences at Stanford University. He co-directs the Stanford Center for Earth Resources Forecasting (SCERF), the Stanford Rock Physics andBorehole Geophysics (SRB) project and the Stanford Basin and Petroleum System (BPSM) project. He received his Ph.D. in Geophysics fromStanford University. The focus of Mukerji’s multi-disciplinary research, with students and colleagues, has been on integrating rock physics, wave propagation physics, spatial data science, and machine learning and their broad applications in subsurface characterization, stochastic geomodeling, uncertainty quantification and value of information in Earth sciences. He uses theoretical, computational, and statistical methods, to discover and understand fundamental relations between geophysical data and rock properties, to quantify uncertainty in subsurface models, and to address value of information for decision making under uncertainty.

Mr. Lev Vernik

World expert in seismic petrophysics, rock physics, geomechanics, and quantitative analysis of seismic data, including AVO and inversion. Lev started his career on the Super deep Kola Well (still the deepest well in the world) in Russia and after emigrating to the USA he worked in both academia (Stanford University) and for five different oil and gas companies (ARCO, Vastar, BP, Noble Energy, and Marathon Oil). Lev is a research professor of geophysics at University of Houston and scientific advisor to Ikon Science. He published over 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and a book “Seismic petrophysics in quantitative interpretation” (2016, SEG) – a top seller for three consecutive years.

Dr. Luis Zerpa

Luis Zerpa is an Associate Professor at the Petroleum Engineering Department of the Colorado School of Mines, and Director of the Center for Rock and Fluid Multiphysics. Luis received his degrees in Mechanical Engineering (BS and MS) from the University of Zulia (Venezuela) and PhD in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. His research combines experimental and modeling evaluation of multiphysical properties of rocks, fluids and their interactions.
