EAGE/EFG collaboration

The EAGE/EFG Photo Contest is co-organised annually by the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) and the European Federation of Geologists (EFG). The 2023 theme is “Legends of Geoscience”.

The European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) is a global professional, not-for-profit association for geoscientists and engineers with members active in over 110 countries and territories. It provides a global network of commercial and academic professionals to all members. The association is truly multi-disciplinary and international in form and pursuits. All members of EAGE are professionally involved in (or studying) geophysics, petroleum exploration, geology, reservoir engineering, mining and mineral exploration, civil engineering, tunneling and environmental matters. To learn more about EAGE, visit www.eage.org.

The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is a not-for-profit professional organisation focused on the promotion of excellence in the application of geology and in raising public awareness on the importance of geosciences for the society. EFG is based in Brussels, was established in 1980 and includes today 27 national association members. EFG adheres to the principles of professional responsibility and public service and certifies the competence, integrity and ethical conduct of professional geologists. Professional geologists, from the EFG national association members, contribute their expertise in education, research and applied practice in industry and for governments in a wide range of activities that are vital to society and to protection of the public. To read more about EFG visit www.eurogeologists.eu.

EurGeol title

Besides the Photo Contest, EAGE and EFG collaborate on the accreditation of the EurGeol title. The European Geologist title (EurGeol) is a professional title created by the European Federation of Geologists which recognizes the ability to deliver a high quality of services within the practice of geology. This certification held by a professional geologist means that the holder has achieved suitable academic training and a level of professional experience, skill and competence to perform tasks within their professional practice. It also means that the geologist undertakes continuing education and training, demonstrating a personal commitment to stay up to date and informed within the sphere of their professional work. In 2013 EAGE became the first official Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provider for EurGeol. Almost every EAGE activity corresponds to CPD Points that will be awarded to you upon completion and will help you to maintain your EurGeol title.
