Symposium Overview

This conference is dedicated to the exploration of the intriguing geological and economic phenomena associated with the Atlantic Conjugate Margins, extending across multiple continents. It offers at the same time an exceptional platform to delve into the geological complexities, resource opportunities, the latest discoveries and the integration of sustainability into resource exploration. It will also provide a strategic forum to discuss how geoscience, data integration, basin evaluation and industry partnerships can support the maturation of emerging and re-emerging Atlantic basins from exploration concepts to investment-ready opportunities.

  • Exploring Geology: The conference aims to delve deep into the geology of Atlantic Conjugate Margins, exploring their origin, development, and the processes that have shaped these diverse landscapes over time. Particular attention may be given to basin evolution, petroleum systems, play concepts, structural inheritance, source-to-sink systems and analogues between conjugate margin segments.
  • Resource Potential: Understanding the potential for hydrocarbon resources, mineral wealth, and other economic opportunities within the Atlantic Conjugate Margins. The symposium may further address how recent discoveries, underexplored plays, acreage maturation, subsurface data and new technologies can contribute to de-risking exploration and unlocking future energy opportunities.
  • Environmental Considerations: Discussing the environmental implications of resource exploration and sustainable development in this unique geological setting. This includes the integration of responsible exploration practices, environmental risk management, lower-carbon development pathways and the evolving role of natural gas, CCS and other complementary energy solutions.
  • Global Implications: Analyzing the global relevance of the Atlantic Conjugate Margins, considering their role in shaping our understanding of continental drift, climate history, and geological processes. The conference may also highlight their strategic role in future energy security, regional cooperation, investment flows and the development of new energy corridors across the Atlantic region.

Key Highlights

  • Geological Discovery: Presentations and discussions on recent geological discoveries and the latest research findings pertaining to the Atlantic Conjugate Margins. This may include new insights from seismic interpretation, basin modelling, stratigraphic analysis, geochemistry, tectono-sedimentary evolution and integrated regional studies.
  • Resource Exploration: In-depth analysis of the oil and gas potential, mineral deposits, and sustainable resource management strategies in this region. A stronger focus may also be placed on frontier and emerging plays, exploration risk reduction, portfolio maturation, data-driven prospectivity assessment and the transition from exploration opportunities to development concepts.
  • Environmental Responsibility: A focus on responsible resource development, environmental impact assessments, and mitigation strategies in the context of the Atlantic Conjugate Margins.
  • International Collaboration: Encouraging cross-border scientific cooperation, technology transfer, and industry partnerships to promote sustainable development and resource management. The symposium could further emphasize partnerships between national institutions, international operators, service companies, academia and investors to accelerate knowledge sharing and opportunity generation.
  • Case Studies: Sharing real-world case studies from different regions along the Atlantic Conjugate Margins, providing insights into best practices and lessons learned. Priority may be given to case studies illustrating successful basin evaluation, new play opening, discovery follow-up, acreage promotion, farm-in dynamics and project maturation.
  • Policy and Regulation: Discussions on regulatory frameworks, governmental policies, and international agreements affecting resource exploration and environmental protection. This section may also address how stable regulatory frameworks, transparent access to data and investor-friendly licensing environments can support exploration activity and long-term energy development.
