DAVIDE CALCAGNI

Head G&G Operation and Services, Eni S.p.A.

Topic: Sea Bottom

Born in Milan on 13.02.1963, he received the MS Degree in Geological Sciences at Milano University with Maximum Mark & Honours with a thesis on the geology and evolution of the Northern Italy hydrocarbon bearing sequence, together with a sub thesis in Geophysics on reflection seismic acquisition and processing.

After 3 years of activity as Chartered Geologist 1991 he joined Eni starting his career in the geophysical department. In the following 32 years he has been assigned a long series of different job positions both domestic and abroad frequently as resident. He has gained a remarkable international experience working in several Countries among the others it is worth to mention Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, UK, USA, Iran, Iraq, China, Norway, Kazakhstan, Congo, Poland, Pakistan, Ukraine, Argentina, Myanmar, Netherland, Vietnam, Australia Ciprus, Ghana, and Italy.

In 2003 he became Manager of the Worldwide activity for Depth Imaging, in 2006 became Manager for the R&D Geosciences and in 2009 he transferred his activity at Corporate level where he became the Technology Planning Manager of Eni SpA. In 2011 he has been appointed worldwide VP Unconventional Exploration of Eni, in 2016 he has been appointed SVP G&G Operation and Services Worldwide and from 2020 he has been holding the position of Head G&G Operation and Services Worldwide. In 2022 he has been also starting coordinating the activity of the Managing Committee for Space Economy in Eni SpA.

Author and co-author of about 20 papers and publication on Geophysical and Technological Subjects among which he is the author of the entry on Unconventional Exploration of Treccani Encyclopaedia.  He has been serving in different International professional organization among which EAGE (becoming world wide president in 2010-2011) SEG and OGP within the Shale gas advocacy task unit. He has been representing Eni at the Stakeholder board of Energeo Alliance (formerly IAGC) since 2019 and is member of a few Board of study degree in geophysics with some dedicated Italian Universities. 

Special Editor of the Geophysical Prospecting Special edition Volume “Integrating Geosciences for Fractured Reservoir Characterization.

He also detains several patents in the field of Seismic Sources Engineering.

DR. AHMAD RIZA GHAZALI

TopicA review of seismic seabed technology: Successes, Challenges and Solutions from a company perspective.

 Dr. Ahmad Riza Ghazali is a highly accomplished chief geophysicist with over 25 years of work experience in the oil and gas industry. He has held various managerial and leadership roles in Upstream E&P, and R&D technology developments and commercialization. He has a Bachelor of Science Geophysics (Geological) from the University of Leicester, UK, and a PhD in Geophysics from Faculty of Applied Physics, Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands. 

Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions towards the industry, including pioneering the establishment of GeoImaging Program Division that led to the successful hydrocarbon discoveries in Malaysia and international explorations. He has led various major technology R&D projects for PETRONAS including in-house multi-fiber optics sensor system. 

In recent years, he has also held the responsibility of chief technical advisor for the Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage technology program ensuring successful technical strategies, assurance, and investments. 

He is an active member of EAGE and sits as the Society of Exploration Geophysicists Advisory Panel for Asia Pacific region. He is previously the panel member of evaluation committee for Long Term and Fundamental Research Fund by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and Scientific Advisory Committee for Sultan Mizan Antartic Research Foundation, Malaysia.



RENE EDOUARD PLESSIX

Senior Principal Researcher,  Shell International 

René-Édouard Plessix received a civil engineer diploma (1992) from École Nationale Supérieure de Mines de Saint-Etienne and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the Université Paris-Dauphine. He also received HDR (habilitation to manage research) in Earth sciences from Grenoble university. After a one-year at INRIA (French research institute in computer science) and Amoco, he joined Shell International E&P in 1998. 

He is now a senior principal researcher. His work focuses on geophysical imaging, notably on wave-propagation modeling and parameter estimation. His interests include modeling, velocity analysis, migration/inversion, wave propagation, numerical analysis and inverse theory. He received the Conrad Schlumberger from EAGE.
