Opening Address Speaker

Dr. Aiman M. Bakhorji

Director of Geophysical Imaging Department, Aramco Exploration

Dr. Aiman M. Bakhorji is currently the Director of Geophysical Imaging Department at Aramco Exploration, where his department focuses on advancing seismic acquisition, processing, imaging, quantitative seismic, rock physics, borehole seismic, and AI-driven geophysical solutions. His team is also the sole entity utilizing the Aramco Dammam-7 supercomputer for developing advanced imaging algorithms and AI solutions. Aiman holds a Masters in Geophysics from the University of Tulsa and a PhD in Rock Physics / Geophysics from the University of Alberta. Notably, he served as the co-chair of IMAGE 24 convention, apart from chairing several EAGE, SEG, SPE, IPTC, GEOS, MEOS & DGS workshops and conferences in the past two decades. Aiman is one of the original patrons of the EAGE Rock Physics Workshop, associated with it since its inception in 2012. As a keen rock physicist, he is known for challenging conventional norms and introducing innovative ideas that drive advancements in this field. His forward-thinking approach has significantly influenced the integration of rock physics into geophysical exploration and research.

Keynote Speakers

Prof. Tor Arne Johansen

Professor in Reservoir Geophysics, University of Bergen

Tor Arne Johansen is professor in reservoir geophysics at The University of Bergen, Norway and in arctic geophysics at The University Center in Svalbard. He is a co-founder of Dig Technology. He has been a regular instructor in reservoir geophysics for EAGE, SEG, CSEG and ASEG. His research covers the use of various types of seismic data for improved characterization of reservoirs and near-surface sediments. His main focus has been on elastic properties of siliciclastic rocks, carbonates and thawing frozen sediments.

Maurice Gidlow

Geophysical Advisor, Rhino Resources

Maurice Gidlow has been working as a geophysicist for over four decades exploring for oil and gas. His specialty is reflection seismology. He is the recipient of  the SEG Reginald Fessenden Medal and the SAGA  Rudolf Krahmann Medal. He is geophysical advisor to Rhino Resources in Cape Town.

Per Avseth

Geophysical Advisor and CTO, Dig Technology

Per Avseth is a Geophysical Advisor and CTO of Dig Technology in Oslo, Norway. Per received his MSc in Applied Petroleum Geosciences from NTNU in 1993 and his PhD in Geophysics from Stanford University, California, in 2000. Per has more than 20 years of experience in the oil industry, and he was the SEG Honorary Lecturer for Europe in 2009. He is a co-author of the book Quantitative Seismic Interpretation (Cambridge University Press, 2005), and he has published extensively in the fields of rock physics and AVO analysis. His current research focuses on basin-scale rock physics and integration of basin modeling, sedimentology, and rock physics.
