About the Workshop

Large scale implementation of hydrogen production and storage are essential for meeting global ambitions on climate change and supporting energy transitions.  Many large players in the oil and gas industry have recently announced major initiatives towards reaching net-zero emissions in the near-future with hydrogen set to play a prominent role.

Hydrogen solutions based on bulk offshore wind energy (green hydrogen) or natural gas with carbon capture (blue hydrogen) are rapidly increasing the supply of hydrogen in the European network and thus increasing demands for storage solutions.

Following a successful first workshop in Germany, the Second EAGE Workshop on Underground Storage of Hydrogen will further expand our focus on issues related to geological hydrogen storage caverns. We hope to address state-of-the-art insights on overall integrity of hydrogen storage including subsurface formation characterization, reservoir management and geomonitoring amongst other topics. Less technical areas such as risk management, social and regulatory concerns will also be included.

The technical programme will include keynote speakers, discussion forums, oral and poster presentations and demonstrations.  We especially welcome case studies and submissions related to issues of large scale commercial implementation.

The objective of the workshop is to advance the technical discussion and share recent experiences and lessons learned from various demonstrations and implementations across the world.
