Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM)

Located in the Daedeok Science Town of Daejeon, the KIGAM (Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources) campus serves as the primary national hub for geological research in South Korea. Established in 1918, KIGAM is one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious research institutes, dedicated to the study of the Earth’s history, mineral resources, and environmental sustainability. The campus is home to the renowned Geological Museum, which features world-class exhibits of fossils, minerals, and a striking dinosaur hall, showcasing the institute’s commitment to public education and scientific discovery. Surrounded by a dense cluster of leading research centers and universities, the campus provides a serene yet intellectually stimulating environment that reflects over a century of dedication to geoscience innovation.

The campus is strategically positioned within a world-class R&D ecosystem, integrated with the natural beauty and technological sophistication of Daejeon. Situated amidst the rolling hills of the Daedeok district and near the scenic Gapcheon River, it offers researchers and visitors a peaceful retreat designed for deep scientific inquiry. The surrounding area features state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, the KIGAM International School for geoscience training, and specialized seismic monitoring centers, all located within the "Silicon Valley of Korea." As KIGAM evolves into a global leader in climate change response and deep-sea exploration, its Daejeon headquarters remains its vital core, offering a seamless blend of natural heritage and cutting-edge earth science research.
