Exploration and Monitoring of Geothermal Reservoirs

Workshop 9: Monday, 3 June
Lecture Room:2
Conveners: Stefan Buske (TU Bergakademie Freiberg)
Adele Manzella (IGG/CNR)
David Bruhn (GFZ Potsdam)

Description:

The demand for renewable energy is rapidly increasing worldwide and geothermal projects play an important role in that respect. Geophysical and related techniques developed over decades for the hydrocarbon sector have been further refined and applied to the exploration and exploitation of geothermal reservoirs and play a vital role over their whole life cycle.

We invite contributions from geophysics and interdisciplinary related fields that cover a broad range of topics related to that research field, including but not limited to: high-resolution geophysical imaging of the structure and characterization of the potential of a geothermal reservoir; THMC modeling; monitoring (incl. seismicity) during stimulation and production; successful case studies and potential pitfalls, etc.

The aim of the workshop is to gather people from academia and industry to discuss the current state of knowledge as well as needs for further research and the road ahead.
