Conjugate Margins Conferences bring together representatives from industry, government and academia researching margin evolution leading to a greater understanding of the prospectivity of sedimentary basins of the North, Central and South Atlantic conjugate margins. The Conference has evolved from a primary petroleum emphasis to incorporate CO2 storage and other critical elements/ subjects of the energy transition.

The first Conjugate Margins Conference was held in 2008 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, with subsequent conferences in Lisbon, Portugal (2010), Dublin, Ireland (2012), St. John’s, Newfoundland,Canada (2014), Recife, Brazil (2017), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (2018), Marrakech, Morocco (2022),Lisbon, Portugal (2024), and St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada (2026). They attract delegates from industry, consultants, university researchers, and government. Students are strongly encouraged to participate through discounted registration with the best oral and poster presentations recognized with prizes for research and presentation excellence.

The conferences convene during the late summer-early autumn with three days of keynote, oral and poster presentations, and trade displays, along with pre- and post-conference field trips, core workshops, seismic data rooms, and short courses interwoven with social and cultural events reflecting the hospitality of the host country. The thematic sessions from the conferences to date have includedAtlantic margin evolution and development, plate reconstruction, geodynamics , carbon neutrality and energy transition, petroleum systems, exploration and production, and productive fields and analogues.The conferences are supported through the financial and in-kind assistance of industry, government, technical societies, and universities..
