Moderator : Dr Clare Barker-White

Dr. Barker White is based in our Petaling Jaya office, Malaysia, and is currently responsible for basin analysis and research focused in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to joining IHS Markit in 2017, she led a reservoir services team providing technical expertise covering geophysical and global reservoir characterization workflows. Her university degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, followed by a master's by research and Ph.D. specializing in carbonate sedimentology from Royal Holloway University of London, United Kingdom.


Panelist : Dr Jay Mariyappan

Dr. Jay Mariyappan joined Petronas in Oct, 2018 as Head of New Energy, a new business unit that has been set up within the PETRONAS Group to focus on clean energy. He has 20+ years working experience in the power industry and financial services with a focus on clean energy. His previous experiences varied from utility planning, project development, investments, operations, trading and business development in Europe, USA, Asia and Africa. 

He spent 10 years at a Singapore based Renewable Energy developer where he was a Managing Director responsible for delivery, sales and trading of environmental products in Asia, and business development in South East Asia. Prior to that he was a Vice President, based in London, at a Global financial services firm where he focused on Clean Energy in India and other parts of Asia. Other roles include utility planning at a major utility power company and as an energy specialist at a renewable engineering company, where he was also seconded to the UK Government to advise on climate change mitigation projects and policy. 

He holds a PhD from Imperial College, London in decentralized energy systems, a Master’s in Environmental Management from University of Nottingham, UK and an Executive MBA from Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern, USA) and HKUST (Hong Kong). 



Panelist : Mr Gabriel Guerra

Gabriel Guerra, currently is the leader of Shell's Exploration transformation journey, integrating the introduction of new business practices and ways of working to an established technology, digital and data strategy; providing the platform for lasting and enhanced exploration performance.

He is also the founder of Studio X, Shell Exploration new external digital venture looking to disrupt the future of geoscience work. Gabriel is a geologist by background and brings a breadth of experience and energy, after 18 years in various exploration positions with Enterprise Oil and Shell. He also has been involved from the start in shaping and leading exploration digitalisation and is deeply involved in leading the digital agenda for Shell. Gabriel is based in London but hails from Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, and is married with two kids



Panelist : Mr Uwa Airhiavbere

Uwa Airhiavbere is a Managing Director within Microsoft’s Worldwide Energy Industry practice. In this role, Uwa is responsible for Microsoft’s overall strategy in the Oil & Gas and mining industries, including field readiness and engagement, partner strategy, strategic investments, and integration among business groups within Microsoft.

Prior to his current role, Uwa held several positions at General Electric (GE) where he had a successful nine-year career within the Oil & Gas Division.   As a strategist and thought leader, Uwa has a proven record of success driving profitable growth and shareholder value. He’s a visionary who supported and led companies through diverse market cycles – from rapid growth to declining economies. Over the course of Uwa’s career, he has worked closely with global organizations from startup companies to Fortune-listed corporations.

Uwa earned an Executive MBA from Cornell University and a Master of Arts in International Relations at Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), with concentrations in International Economics & Energy Policy. He also has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics, with honors, from Brown University.



Panelist : Mr Jean-Marc Rodriguez

Mr. Jean-Marc Rodriguez is presently the VP Exploration Asia Pacific managing  TOTAL Asia-Pac Exploration hub in Paris. He received his master from IPGS/France in Geology & Geophysics. Jean-Marc has been with Total for over 30 years. He was employed in many different positions in exploration and Production during this time, ranging from operations geophysics to field development.

Jean-Marc held several E&P positions around the world (UK, Angola, Congo, USA, Thailand & Singapore). He also led development projects for upstream geophysics.

On the reservoir side, he has held a variety of management roles in geosciences, from corporate reservoir geophysics manager to VP Geosciences in Africa.

Today, Mr. Rodriguez is leading a team of experts working to optimize and grow Total’s exploration and to pave the way for the future, working extensively on the implementation of new technologies and value creation.



Panelist : Mr Andrea Lovatini

Andrea Lovatini is the Global Geosolutions Manager for the Digital and Integration Division of Schlumberger. In his role he is responsible worldwide for the geoscientists, technologies and services related to geophysical processing and imaging activities, survey design and modeling, seismic characterization and monitoring, multiphysics integration, geoscience and exploration consulting.

Andrea has a MSC in Telecommunication Engineering, with specialization in Digital Signal Processing from the Politecnico of Milan, Italy. He started his career working as geophysicist in Geosystem a geophysical integration company purchased by Schlumberger in 2007, where he held various positions working on electromagnetics methods from algorithm development, to field processing, to geophysical consulting. In Schlumberger he held several technical and managerial roles in WesternGeco and PTS, including managing the marine onboard geophysics team, leading the center of excellence for multiphysics, responsible for R&E, land acquisition, processing and interpretation of multiple geophysical methods, leading the global seismic characterization business till becoming vice president for Geosolutions for WesternGeco.
