and Erik Wielemaker (Sonic Expert, Schlumberger)
An accurate characterization of the anisotropic elasticproperties of subsurface formations is key to bothgeomechanical and geophysical applications. Borehole sonicand borehole seismic are a rich source of measurements ofthe dynamic elastic behavior of formations, providing key insituconstraints to surface seismic studies. In most publishedcases, the characterized formations are assumed to be welldescribedby a transversely isotropic (TI) model consistingof up to five independent parameters, and inversion resultsare commonly reported following Thomsen’s notation(i.e., in terms of VP0, VS0, ε, δ, and γ). Sonic slownessmeasurements can be augmented with auxiliary data frompublished core measurements, to also provide plausible logsof fractured VTI (FVTI) moduli.
In this one-day short-course, three active experts with over20-30 years of experience each, working in the fields of sonic, microseismic, VSP and surface seismic depth imaging, willprovide the fundamental knowledge necessary to understand, identify and estimate different types of elastic anisotropy, andwill show how to integrate the measurements across differentscales, from cores up to surface seismic.
Olga Zdraveva (Depth Imaging Advisor WesternGeco)
Olga Zdraveva holds degrees in applied geophysics and applied mathematics from technical universities in Bulgaria. She joined Western Geophysical in 1996 and is currently holding a position as imaging domain advisor in WesternGeco. Her main interests are in: multidisciplinary approaches for anisotropic model building for (depth) imaging of surface (and borehole) seismic data, including the complementary use of FWI and borehole data in earth model building workflows.
Scott Leaney is Global Geophysics Advisor for Schlumberger, based in Houston, TX. He holds several geophysics degrees: PhD and MSc from the University of British Columbia and B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba. He joined Schlumberger in 1988 in France, developing software for VSP processing and AVO modeling. From 1993 he was the Southeast Asia Geophysicist for Wireline based in Indonesia; from 1998 manager of WesternGeco InterSeis group developing integrated seismic processing, in Gatwick, UK and from 2003 he worked in R&D for 3DVSP processing and microseismic applications. These days he splits his time between borehole data integration for unconventionals and R&D, focusing on anisotropic ray trace modeling and inversion. He has 40+ publications in journals and conference proceedings and 7 sole inventor patents. He was awarded SEG Best Student Paper in 1986, was an EAGE Distinguished Lecturer nominee in 1999 and received a Best Presentation award at Geoconvention/CSEG 2015.
Erik Wielemaker (Sonic Expert, Schlumberger)
Eric Wielemaker is Acoustic Expert for Schlumberger Wireline, based in The Hague, The Netherlands. He has a MSc degree in Geophysics from the University of Utrecht. Erik has a large international exposure with several assignments in different continents, working in sonic and seismic data processing and providing Geomechanics & Geophysics solutions to the Oil industry. He has a large experience with Geophysics and Petrophysics disciplines and has also been involved in the engineering and development of modern sonic tools and sonic software, which include the derivation of anisotropic properties on basis of sonic logs.
