Munich, Germany

The Bavarian city of Munich is the third largest city in Germany after Berlin and Hamburg. The city is a global hub for science, technology, education and innovation with world-class research universities, scientific institutions and science museums.

Munich has a strong history in the geothermal sector with continued growth over the last two decades. The Munich City Utilities (SWM) is leading the energy transition with the ambition of making Munich the first German city with a district heating network supplied entirely from renewable energy sources, predominantly sourced from deep geothermal energy, by 2040.
