Offshore renewable energy is a pivotal element in the energy transition, featuring global advancements from near-shore shallow water areas to deep-sea environments. These areas often exhibit a complex geological history, leading to distinct geospatial variability in soil conditions with potential geohazards. Also metocean conditions vary massively between regions. Effective development optimization (foundation concepts) and geohazard management necessitate the comprehensive integration of geological, geophysical, geotechnical and environmental data within a robust (geological) framework, encompassing uncertainties in a holistic manner.
Recognizing the importance of bridging the gap and enhancing understanding between geotechnical and geoscience communities, the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE) and the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) are planning a series of workshops in different parts of the world. These workshops address globally applicable themes which are tailored to region-specific considerations, serving as a unique technical platform to tackle challenges and progress towards genuinely integrated site characterization and foundation design.
The global workshop series aims to champion and advance a multi- disciplinary approach as the standard for sustainable future offshore renewable energy site characterization and infrastructure development.
EAGE/SUT will solicit abstracts from industry and academia experts to develop a program of technical presentations and panel discussions addressing the pressing regional challenges for offshore renewable energy development in the US.
