Geothermal energy is a renewable, sustainable and resilient energy source, but there is a high risk in exploration stages, which can be reduced by understanding the nature of geothermal reservoirs.
The aim of the first EAGE Latin America Workshop on Geothermal is to share experiences regarding exploration and exploitation, to establish appropriate practices for geothermal developing in the Americas, which is one of the largest undeveloped geothermal regions worldwide.
In the same way, the sustainable development of geothermal energy must consider the communities and respect for the environment since the early stages of exploration to power plant operation. In the climate change context, geothermal energy has the potential to contribute to sustainable developing as a clean renewable energy source. Nevertheless, it is mandatory to consider political, economic, social, technical, environmental and legal dimensions to guarantee sustainability.
