Peter Hanssen
Equinor
Dr. Peter Hanssen studied physics and geophysics at the Technical University of Berlin, where he obtained an MSc in neural networks for seismic inversion. After working at the GFZ Potsdam he started his PhD on sub-basalt imaging at the University of Edinburgh while based at the Edinburgh Anisotropy Project. Peter continued his work on seismic imaging of the Atlantic Margin at the British Geological Survey, before moving to Norsk Hydro's research centre in Bergen, Norway, where he worked on sub-salt imaging using additional gravity data from AUVs. He began research into passive seismic exploration using surface waves from microseisms, before overseeing the development of the “Deep Blue” electromagnetic system as a team leader at Statoil. Peter was the Task Manager for geophysical instrumentation and acquisition and led the work on more environmentally friendly seismic sources such as the BASS marine vibrator. He is now the head of geophysical research department at Equinor, and automation for environmental-friendlier geophysical acquisitions is his passion.
