Fifth EAGE Workshop on Practical 4D Reservoir Monitoring

19 - 21 April, 2027 | Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Workshop Overview

The current workshop incarnation aims to show how the use of modern reservoir surveillance practices can be applied to ensure safe injection and drainage, while optimizing field production and maximize value.

Geopolitics and market volatility have pushed the energy trilemma—security, equity (affordability), and environmental sustainability—into sharp focus. Amid these pressures, the day‑to‑day work of disciplined reservoir management remains essential, and Practical 4D Reservoir Monitoring continues to play a critical role.

From mature provinces to new developments, time‑lapse (4D) continues to inform field development and production decisions. In the North Sea and other mature basins, 4D helps extend field life by identifying bypassed resources, guiding near‑field exploration, and enabling tiebacks to existing infrastructure. In deepwater and pre‑salt settings, advances in acquisition, processing, and interpretation are establishing surveillance and management processes across the life cycle of the fields.

Even in a shifting business environment, one constant remains: better decisions come from better knowledge. This workshop focuses on practical methods—fit‑for‑purpose survey design, repeatability, integration with reservoir models, and clear value framing—so that long‑term reservoir management decisions are evidence‑based and resilient.

In common with the previous workshops there continues to be a desire to investigate, discuss, share, and learn from the successes and failures that are provided from Practical 4D Reservoir Monitoring.

Workshop Aim

In common with the previous workshops the current incarnation aims to show how the use of modern reservoir surveillance practices can be applied to ensure safe injection and drainage, while optimizing field production and maximize value.

The workshop aims to continue to investigate the benefits through multidisciplinary data integration, of geophysical and engineering data, and increased digitalization that allow for improved work processes that enhance reservoir monitoring capabilities.

The workshop has always provided a venue and will continue to do so, for embryonic ideas and technologies as well as future trends. Examples such as distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) and big data analytics, shared in previous workshops have later gone on to warrant their own workshops as the acceptance of these technologies has become widespread.

Participant's Profile

Specialists from leading operators, service companies and academia will come together to exchange insights on the latest developments and value proposition of reservoir monitoring. We encourage oral presentations and posters exploring global perspectives on the use of reservoir monitoring techniques within various geographical and geological settings.

Beyond the traditional applications in hydrocarbon reservoirs, we also welcome applications in other fields such as hydrogen storage, carbon storage and geothermal. New business challenges and opportunities presented by the coexistence of reservoir monitoring with wind farm development, and the use of reservoir monitoring for exploration are also invited.

Technical Committee

This event is organized with the essential support of the technical committee members. The Technical Committee is composed of industry specialists within the event topic's area.
