The Quarry Park Energy Solutions (QPES) group at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Alberta, Canada is housed in a 40,000-square-foot applied research facility that supports subsurface technology development and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) research. The Centre provides industry, reservoir engineers and scientists with specialized infrastructure and technical expertise to evaluate recovery concepts, reduce subsurface uncertainty and generate evidence for technical and investment decisions.Our teams capabilities support controlled laboratory testing of reservoir fluids, rocks and recovery processes under representative subsurface conditions. Research can investigate fluid-rock interactions, displacement behaviour, recovery mechanisms and the performance of thermal, solvent, chemical and other EOR approaches. Experimental programs can be designed to compare technologies, optimize operating parameters and assess potential improvements in recovery efficiency.Through SAIT’s industry-driven applied research model, QPES connects reservoir engineering, petroleum engineering, geoscience and laboratory expertise. Projects can progress from early-stage feasibility and proof-of-concept testing through optimization, validation and preparation for field trials. By combining rigorous experimentation with practical industry insight, QPES helps partners better understand reservoir behaviour, identify promising EOR pathways and make informed decisions about technology deployment, operational performance and environmental impact.
