Riyadh Camel Trail Field Trip

This field trip will provide an exposure to outcrops of the most prolific oil-producing reservoir in the world and its seal – the Arab-D Member and the Hith Formation, respectively.  At Wadi Haeer locality, field trip participants will get a chance to closely examine the contact between the upper part of Jubaila Formation and the lower parts of Arab Formation. The field trip will visit a geo-touristic site locally known as Pilgrims Route or Abu Al-Qud Route that is situated within Tuwaiq Mountains and was made 1,400 years ago to allow pilgrims heading from Najd towards Mecca pass through the mountains.  It was also an important route for commercial caravans in the area.  At this locality, field trip participants will get exposure to various stratigraphic elements of Tuwaiq Mountain formation and there will be a brief discussion on the structural elements of Tuwaiq Mountain escarpment.
