Keynote Speakers

The workshop features keynote presentations from leaders in marine acquisition and exploration geophysics.

VP for Geophysical Operations

Equinor

Jens Olav Paulsen

Keynote: Marine seismic acquisition, moving forward in the energy transition

Jens Olav Paulsen is the VP for Geophysical Operations in Equinor with corporate responsibility for seismic acquisition projects worldwide. He joined Equinor in 2013 as a project manager in the Geophysical Operations team and he has managed many complex and challenging seismic acquisition projects for Equinor both in Norway and internationally. Prior to joining Equinor he worked 15 years for WesternGeco, most of this time in product development where he contributed to the development of WesternGeco’s marine seismic recording systems, positioning systems and control systems for automatic steering of the towed equipment. His last position prior to joining Equinor was Engineering Manager for the IsoMetrix development.

Chief Geophysicist

 Magseis Fairfield

Fons ten Kroode

Keynote: On long offsets and low frequencies

Fons ten Kroode joined Magseis Fairfield as Chief Geophysicist as of February 1st 2022. Before that he worked for 30 years in Geophysical Research at Shell. Starting as a borehole geophysicist in 1991, he continued to work in the General Research department as a mathematical geophysicist on Full Waveform Inversion in the mid-nineties. Following this, he held positions as team lead signal processing R&D, manager of Shell’s global seismic imaging R&D program and manager of Shell’s Acquisition and Processing R&D group. He holds a PhD in Mathematics and MSc in Theoretical Physics from the University of Amsterdam, where he was Assistant Professor of Mathematics before joining Shell.

Specialist Sustainability

Equinor

Jürgen Weissenberger

Keynote: Blind and deaf? What does the increased noise levels  in the ocean mean for marine organisms?

Very lousy at school, became electrician first, got fun on learning later, studied Biology (Limnology = Fresh Water Ecology) in Freiburg and Konstanz (Germany), First job as warden in the German Wadden Sea national park, then Scientist and PhD student at Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) for Polar and Marine Science in Bremerhaven, Germany. Working on Antarctic Plankton Ecology, PhD in 1992, then post doc position at AWI and work in the Arctic, two year research grant for work in Rovaniemi Finnland. From 1997 on working and living  in Norway, first for Norsk Hydro, then Yara and finally Equinor in different roles, always related to research, application development and environmental risk assessment.  Subject matter expert for biological impact of underwater noise in Equinor since 2008. Equinor’s representative in IOGP JIP Sound and Marine Live in different positions. Advising all business areas within Equinor on issues of underwater noise. Doing sound propagation modelling for environmental purposes.

Seismic Business

Development Manager

Fugro

Sanket Bhattacharya

Keynote: Application of seismic in near surface/shallow environments for the foundation studies of wind farms.

I am the Seismic Business Development Manager at Fugro. I joined Fugro in 2018. I am based in Leidschendam, The Netherlands. I have over 14 years of industry experience, during which I have worked with Seismic data from its inception up to the final product. As a growing Geophysicist, I have been involved in technical assignments in India, USA, UK, Europe, Brazil, Uruguay, Greenland and East & West Africa. Having dealt with reservoir seismic, there was an essential transition that I went through to understand the nuances of the modern-day ultra-ultra-high resolution seismic. In my current role, I am primarily responsible for solving the seismic challenges in offshore renewables as well as for the global strategic outlook for what lies ahead of us. I hold a BSc in Geology from the University of Burdwan, a MSc in Applied Geology from University of Calcutta and a MTech degree in Petroleum Geosciences from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (India).

Technical Business Development Manager

CGG

Hari Krishna

Keynote: Advances in hybrid marine acquisition and imaging

As the Technical Business Development Manager for CGG’s EDA division, Hari Krishna is tasked with developing solutions for Geophysical challenges, leveraging technology to build new projects and provide Geophysical analysis for opportunity evaluations across Europe, Middle East, and Africa. He joined CGG in 2005 as a geophysicist within the seismic processing department.  Prior to his current role, Hari was responsible for Technical Project Management of EDA projects for it’s Eastern Hemisphere.  He holds a Master’s Degree in Marine Geophysics from Cochin University in India and currently undertaking an Executive MBA with University of Warwick in UK.

Geophysicist, BP

Charles Cooper

Keynote: High-resolution quad source acquisition over three CCS structures in the Southern North Sea

Charles Cooper joined bp in 2015 as a seismic acquisition geophysicist and has since provided survey design and project management expertise across bp’s global portfolio, from Azerbaijan, Abu Dhabi, and India, to the North Sea, across various innovative node, streamer and DAS VSP acquisitions. His interests lie in novel survey design, complex operations management and innovating in the renewables and CCUS space. Charles has recently project managed bp’s first major carbon capture seismic acquisition as part the Northern Endurance Partnership project. He holds an MSc in Geophysics from Imperial College London.
