The First EAGE Workshop on Hydrogen & Carbon Capture Sequestration in Latin America will be a venue for presenting and discussing experience and knowledge to and with the attendees to develop an understanding of what has been done, what will be needed, what choices have to be made, the risks, the uncertainties, and the costs of bad decisions. Most important, the workshop will facilitate building personal networks to create efficient learning curves.

Facilitated by Jazmin Mota

Jazmín Mota is a geological engineer who graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico(UNAM) and a PhD candidate from the University of Edinburgh. She has worked and collaborated on projects on Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) and Sustainability projects. She participated as a representative of Mexico in working groups and multilateral forums on CCS/CCUS. She has carried out activities such as public consultations, teaching, training, and scientific dissemination.

All the activities are designed to encourage collaboration and an open discussion about what the future looks like for CCS and Hydrogen in Latin America. This session, held in the final part of the workshop, will be especially productive and helpful to ground our ideas and integrate the knowledge and information gathered during the workshop. The workshop will facilitate building personal networks to create efficient learning curves and develop critical and systems thinking.

The Hyundai NEXO has marked a milestone in sustainable mobility in Colombia by becoming the first vehicle to run exclusively on green hydrogen, providing an impressive range of 666 kilometers with a simple recharge of just 5 minutes. This car represents the culmination of decades of research and development in fuel cell technology, a project that took root in 1998 and finally materialized on the market in 2013. Hyundai has stood out as a true pioneer by being the first manufacturer to produce large-scale hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

From the perspective of OPEX S.A.S, this vehicle and the associated refueling station have played a fundamental role in establishing the first hydrogen mobility pilot in Colombia. In addition to being an achievement in itself, this milestone has served as a catalyst for larger projects that are currently being implemented in the country. In summary, the Hyundai NEXO and its refueling infrastructure have paved the way towards a more sustainable and promising future in Colombian mobility.
