Artem Sazykin

Bringing over 20 years of experience in seismic imaging, depth processing, and geophysical technology applications for marine, land, OBN, and OBC projects worldwide. Currently assigned to SLB Rio Center, he supports the delivery of advanced subsurface imaging solutions across diverse geological settings.

Carlos Cunha

Petrobras 

Was born in 1957 in the city of Rio de Janeiro and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Physics from UFRJ in 1979. He joined Petrobras in 1982, where he remains to this day. He obtained his PhD in Geophysics from Stanford University (USA) in 1992, under the supervision of Prof. Jon Claerbout, with a dissertation on VTI elastic migration. In 2007, he received the Décio Oddone Award from SBGf (outstanding achievement in geophysics in the oil category). Since 2013, he has served as a Master Consultant in geophysics, working in the areas of imaging, attributes, and seismic data inversion.


Jorge Matias

Senior Researcher

Equinor 

Is a Senior Researcher in Geophysics at Equinor’s Brazil R&D Centre, with 14 years of experience across the full E&P value chain, from exploration through field development and production. His work focuses on extracting value from seismic data to support subsurface understanding and decision-making, with expertise in seismic imaging, quantitative seismic interpretation, seismic-to-geomodel integration, and uncertainty analysis. Jorge has a track record in multidisciplinary collaboration, translating complex seismic and geological challenges into models. He has been directly involved in key seismic processing and imaging projects across Equinor Brazil, strengthening the link between acquisition, processing, and subsurface interpretation. He currently leads research projects on pre-salt geology and geophysics, with particular focus on seismic imaging challenges, rock physics, 4D seismic, and multi-scale integration in complex carbonate reservoirs at Brazilian pre-salt. He is particularly focused on bridging acquisition, processing, and interpretation to improve seismic-driven decisions in complex pre-salt carbonate reservoirs. He holds a BSc in Geophysics from IAG-USP and an MSc from COPPE-UFRJ.


Timothy L. Roden

ThinkOnward LLC

Is a Geoscience Advisor at ThinkOnward LLC, where he helps lead the development of cloud-native seismic imaging workflows and multi-vendor subsurface technology partnerships. With over 25 years of experience in computational geophysics, seismic processing, and digital transformation, he specializes in translating emerging computing architectures into production-ready exploration capabilities. Before joining ThinkOnward, Tim held senior leadership roles at Shell, leading large global organizations responsible for seismic acquisition, processing, high-performance computing, and advanced imaging workflows, including Full Waveform Inversion


Rodrigo Fuck 

Shearwater

A geologist by training from Universidade de Brasilia (inspired and guided by my own father, a Geology professor there), I spent five years trekking the hills of the Carajás mining province in the Brazilian Amazon looking for gold and copper, only to find out that my dream job actually involved air conditioning and a computer screen. That pivot required a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Colorado School of Mines (2008), a defining journey that taught me how to see the world through seismic waves. 

Since then, I have worked across research labs and exploration teams, start-ups and industry giants, operators and service companies in Brazil, the UK, and now in the US. I joined Shearwater in 2022, and since 2024 I have led the Houston Geophysics R&D. I am fascinated by seismic imaging and inversion (love at first wiggle), especially if we are talking about anisotropic earth models; I enjoy combining seemingly unrelated geological, physical, mathematical, and engineering concepts, because eventually they will help you find new ways to probe and to understand the Earth's subsurface.

Outside of geophysics, I am a loud fan of Grêmio de Futebol Porto-Alegrense (the best football team on the planet, full stop), a barbecue enthusiast, an avid chess player, and a history buff, especially since my knees decided they would no longer allow me to grace either a football pitch or a volleyball court. I also love to strum the same guitar tunes over and over --- much to my wife's resignation.

Robert Bloor 

TGS

Is the Vice President of Strategic Technology at TGS.  Following degrees in Maths and Geophysics at Cambridge and Leeds Universities respectively, he joined Western Geophysical in the research team. Robert has spent his career in research and technology roles with a focus on processing and imaging technology and how they integrate both with acquisition and into interpretation and geoscience. His current role focuses on investigating leading methods that are enablers for our future business, from the state of the art in imaging algorithms to AI solutions.

Max Velasques

Geophysical Data Processing Manager

Petrobras 

Max Velasques holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a Master’s degree in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines. He has been working at Petrobras since 2006, where he built a solid career as a geophysicist. Max began his professional career in Seismic Data Acquisition, participating in several onshore seismic surveys across different Brazilian basins. He later transitioned to Seismic Data Processing, playing an important role in major exploration projects. Between 2010 and 2018, he served as coordinator of seismic processing projects for the pre-salt province in the Santos Basin, one of Petrobras’ most strategic exploration areas. Since 2020, Max has been leading the Geophysical Data Processing Management at Petrobras, with overall responsibility for the company’s seismic processing activities. His current role involves overseeing a large portfolio of complex processing projects focused on new exploratory frontiers as well as on the monitoring of post-salt and pre-salt producing fields—areas that represent major technical and strategic challenges for the company.


Adel Khalil 

Viridien

Adel Khalil is the Center Manager of Viridien seismic imaging in Rio de Janeiro, where he supports a wide range of groups across operations, R&D, geology, and reservoir. With experience built across several continents, he has held research and operational roles in Egypt, the UK, the US, and Brazil.

Elena Medina

Geosolutions Manager

SLB

Is the Geosolutions Manager for SLB. In this role, she is responsible for leading global Geosolutions teams, driving the delivery of integrated, technology-driven subsurface solutions. Elena holds a master’s degree in mathematical engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. She began her career as an R&D engineer, developing algorithms and tools for electromagnetic (EM)data processing and modelling. She then moved into Multiphysics as well as seismic processing and imaging, first in Milan and later in Houston. She continued her career as Project Manager for large-scale projects, and then as Geosolutions Manager in Brazil and the UK, looking after seismic processing business and delivery in the regions. She then served as Digital & Integration Manager for the Caspian region, based in Kazakhstan, where she was responsible for advancing digital transformation initiatives and integrating software, data, and subsurface workflows across geoscience and engineering domains. When she became Geosolutions Manager, her role expanded to include global leadership of geoscientists and specialists delivering advanced geophysical processing, imaging, modelling, and interpretation services, as well as driving innovation and client engagement across the Geosolutions portfolio. Elena is passionate about working with diverse, multidisciplinary teams to push the boundaries of technology and deliver outstanding results for clients worldwide.


Wences Gouveia 

Shell

Was born on 14 April 1965 in Castanhal, a small town in the Amazon region of Brazil. Before completing one year of age, his family moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he lived for 27 years. Wences moved to the U.S. in 1992 to pursue a Ph.D. degree at the Colorado School of Mines and professional opportunities including Mobil Oil R&D (1997-2000), ExxonMobil R&D, Technology and Operations (2000-2005), and since 2005 at Shell Oil in a Technical Authority and Geophysics Discipline Lead capacity. Wences leads some 40 seismic interpreters based in Houston, London, and Rio de Janeiro operating in the Deepwater Americas region (GOM and Brazil) in complex areas of drilling and reservoir characterization. Wences is married to Eliane Correa de Lima (architect) and is the father of two children, Bernardo (postdoctoral fellow) and Priscilla Gouveia (veterinary technician).

 

Dr. Yi Huang

Chief Geophysicist, Overseas Processing

BGP Inc

Holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from the University of California, San Diego. He is the Chief Geophysicist of GRI Overseas at BGP Inc. He joined BGP in 2024 after more than 15 years of international experience in seismic processing, velocity model building, and advanced imaging technologies. Before joining BGP, Dr. Huang served as processing manager and Senior Technical Advisor at TGS, where he led the development and production deployment of state-of-the-art technologies. He previously held technical positions at CGG and Sinopec Tech, contributing to numerous seismic imaging projects across the world, in various complex geological environments.

Simon Telfer

Chief Technology Officer

Shearwater GeoServices

Is the Chief Technology Officer at Shearwater GeoServices, where he leads the company’s global technology strategy across marine acquisition, manufacturing, processing & imaging, IT, and digitalisation. Appointed CTO in 2025, Simon previously served as Senior Vice President of Software, Processing & Imaging (SPI), a role he held for eight years while driving major advances in seismic imaging and high-performance geophysical software. With more than two decades of experience spanning seismic processing, imaging, and marine operations, Simon has held senior technical and operational roles at Dolphin Geophysical, CGG, and Veritas. His leadership has been central to Shearwater’s transformation into a technology-driven marine geoscience company, strengthening innovation, integration, and digital capability across the organisation. Simon holds an M.Sci. in Exploration Geophysics from University College London and is widely recognised for championing technological progress in marine geoscience, from advanced imaging workflows to modern digital operations. He regularly contributes to industry forums on seismic technology, high-performance computing, and the future of marine acquisition and processing.

Fabio Mancini

Chief Technology Officer

DUG

is a geophysicist with broad expertise in seismic acquisition, processing, and imaging, with a strong focus on innovation and emerging technologies. He began his career as a processing geophysicist at CGG in London before completing a PhD at the University of Edinburgh, specializing in converted wave imaging. He then joined Total, contributing to both R&D and operational teams across land and marine seismic projects. In 2008, Fabio moved to Hess as part of the Technology team, where he oversaw seismic activities across the Eastern Hemisphere. In 2011, he relocated to Australia to joinWoodside, taking on a series of technical leadership roles and becoming Chief Geophysicist in 2018. There, he led significant advancements in Full Waveform Inversion and novel seismic acquisition approaches, which ultimately led to the formation of Blue Ocean Seismic Services. Fabio joined the spin-off in 2022 as Chief Geophysicist, guiding the development and deployment of autonomous seismic acquisition technology. In 2025, Fabio joined DUG Technology as Chief Geophysicist for APAC and the Americas, contributing to the development and application of their industry-leadingmulti-parameter Full Waveform Inversion solution. He is an active member of EAGE and SEG and regularly contributes to conferences, workshops, and technical publications.

Mohammed Hegazy 

Executive Vice President of Imaging

TGS

Mohammed Hegazy is Executive Vice President of Imaging at TGS, where he leads the company’s global seismic imaging business, technology strategy, and project delivery. He has extensive international experience in seismic data acquisition, field operations, processing, advanced imaging, software solutions, and client collaboration, with particular expertise in complex deepwater basins such as the Gulf of Mexico/Gulf of America. Before joining TGS, Mohammed held several senior leadership roles at SLB. He is passionate about seismic data and has closely followed the remarkable evolution of full-waveform inversion and its impact on subsurface imaging.
