Geophysical Data Processing Manager
Petrobras
Max Velasques holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a Master’s degree in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines. He has been working at Petrobras since 2006, where he built a solid career as a geophysicist. Max began his professional career in Seismic Data Acquisition, participating in several onshore seismic surveys across different Brazilian basins. He later transitioned to Seismic Data Processing, playing an important role in major exploration projects. Between 2010 and 2018, he served as coordinator of seismic processing projects for the pre-salt province in the Santos Basin, one of Petrobras’ most strategic exploration areas. Since 2020, Max has been leading the Geophysical Data Processing Management at Petrobras, with overall responsibility for the company’s seismic processing activities. His current role involves overseeing a large portfolio of complex processing projects focused on new exploratory frontiers as well as on the monitoring of post-salt and pre-salt producing fields—areas that represent major technical and strategic challenges for the company.
Geosolutions Manager, Brazil
SLB
Is the seismic processing manager for SLB in Brazil. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Geophysical Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a master’s degree in management from Esden Business School. Since joining SLB in 2012, he has built extensive experience in seismic processing and imaging across land, marine, and transitional datasets, serving as a signal processing geophysicist, earth model builder, and depth imaging specialist. He later moved into leadership of multidisciplinary geoscience teams, progressing through project management, team leadership, and service/performance leadership roles. Since 2023, he has led SLB Geosolutions’ geophysical data processing center in Rio de Janeiro, supporting projects across Brazil and South America and applying advanced processing and imaging technologies to address increasingly complex geological environments.

Carlos Cunha was born in 1957 in the city of Rio de Janeiro and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Physics from UFRJ in 1979. He joined Petrobras in 1982, where he remains to this day. He obtained his PhD in Geophysics from Stanford University (USA) in 1992, under the supervision of Prof. Jon Claerbout, with a dissertation on VTI elastic migration. In 2007, he received the Décio Oddone Award from SBGf (outstanding achievement in geophysics in the oil category). Since 2013, he has served as a Master Consultant in geophysics, working in the areas of imaging, attributes, and seismic data inversion.
