MEET THE KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Rachel Paez

ExxonMobil  

Is the Subsurface Manager for Brazil, with responsibilities to lead ExxonMobil’s team working across the Upstream from Production to Frontier Exploration.  Rachel began her career as a geologist, and has been involved in various projects across the globe within ExxonMobil’s companies spanning Exploration, Development, and Production activities. Geoscience assignments have included Nigeria, Angola, the US Gulf of Mexico, Malaysia, Australia, Guyana, Argentina, Brazil, and Qatar. Global roles have been in both formal management as well as technical advisory roles; Technical Team lead for lines of business, supervisor, senior advisor in mergers and acquisitions, and currently as the Brazil Subsurface Manager.  Rachel has focused on how subsurface valuation approaches (particularly assigning risk and characterizing uncertainty) can improve business decisions. She is an expert in Geoscience Integration, Assessment, Subsurface Characterization, and portfolio management. Rachel is recognized internally and externally for her expertise in helping teams link subsurface understanding to a well-defined value proposition. 

Thiago Penna

Equinor 

Has worked for Equinor for 14 years, and has been project director for Raia, a major offshore gas field development project in Brazil, for the last 4 years. Previously, he has held different leadership positions in Brazil, Norway, and Angola mostly within the areas of project management, corporate strategy, and supply chain management. He has an industrial civil engineering background with an international master’s degree in general management. Before Equinor, he worked for Schlumberger as a procurement manager and in Accenture as a business analyst. 

Raphael Moura

ANP 

Has a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Liverpool, specializing in incident learning and human factors, and a Masters in Risk Management from Cranfield University, both in the United Kingdom. He has an MBA in Enterprise Management, from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, a degree in Production Engineering with an emphasis on Mechatronics, from CEFET-RJ and a postgraduate degree in Offshore Systems, from UFRJ. He also specializes in Executive Leadership (Cornell University) and Public Policy (from the London School of Economics and Political Science).

Moura has been a Regulatory Specialist at the ANP since November 2005. Current Superintendent of Technology and Environment and responsible for implementing the regulatory strategy for Research, Technological Development and Innovation, he held several strategic and leadership roles at the Agency, having been Head of Coordination of Operational Safety, Superintendent of Infrastructure and Movement, Advisor to the Board, Superintendent of Exploration and Superintendent of Operational Safety and Environment. He was the Agency's Interim General Director between September and December 2020, and Deputy Director between June and December 2021.

In the academic field, he is an honorary researcher at the University of Liverpool-UK and editor of the journal of the American Association of Mechanical Engineers (ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems Part B: Mechanical Engineering). He has several publications in national and international journals, in the areas of risk, safety, environment and human factors.

João Henrique Nascimento

Special Secretariat for the Investment Partnerships Program of the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic (SEPPI/CC/PR)

João Henrique works as Program Director at the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI), within the scope of the Presidency of the Republic, where he works with the structuring of priority infrastructure projects. In the Oil and Gas sector, he worked at the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) for 15 years and expanded his knowledge and experience in several thematic areas of the Agency, such as the Superintendence of Research and Development (SPP, now SPD), Development and Production (SDP), Operational Safety and Environment (SSM), Local Content (SCL) and Government Participation (SPG). He has experience in the public and private sectors, in Oil and Gas infrastructure (Regulatory Agency) and Consumer Goods (The Coca-Cola Company), where he developed skills and experience in the economic analysis of projects and evaluation of companies at the energy and the beverage sector. Graduated in Chemical Engineering from IME-RJ. He completed his master's degree in Project Management and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and has specializations in Regulation, Antitrust, Economics, Law and Environment.

Jorge Lopez

Shell 

He is a Geophysicist with over 25 years of experience working for Shell in many technical and managerial capacities, including assignments in R&D, Exploration, Enhanced Oil Recovery, and Reservoir Monitoring, applied to reservoirs onshore and in deep water. He is credited with opening new fields of geophysical technology, multiple patents, and many publications. He moved to Brasil in 2019 and currently is the Manager for Subsurface Technology, tasked with investing the ANP R&D obligation in a diverse portfolio of projects. Jorge holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Wisconsin, USA.

Alexander Zarkhidze

SLB

Currently holds the position of global Chief Geophysicist Exploration Data responsible for SLB Multiclient and Geosolutions. After Mr. Zarkhidze received a Masters degree in Geophysics at St.Petersburg State Mining Institute (Technical University) in 1993 he worked for 5 years in the Arctic region asa seismic observer and seismic data processor. He joined Schlumberger in 1998 and has worked innumerous WesternGeco’ Operations, Data Processing and Research Centers in UAE, UK, Russia, Oman,France, Norway, India, Egypt and United States. Alexander’s current responsibilities include geophysical and geo-science support, technical management and coordination of all areas of survey design, data processing, imaging and analysis of geophysical data across worldwide Multiclient and Geosolutions locations within SLB.

Gerardo Gaitan

S&P Global

He is a salt tectonics specialist and basin researcher for Latin America at S&P Global based in the United Kingdom. Gerardo holds an M.Sc. in Petroleum Geosciences and a Ph.D. in Structural Geology and Salt Tectonics from Royal Holloway University of London. Moreover, Gerardo is the author of the first classification for multi-stage salt structures and is an experienced seismic interpreter, geomechanics analyst, and petroleum system and basin modeler with international technical experience in Argentina, Uruguay, offshore Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Gulf of Mexico, and the North Sea. Gerardo has worked in both exploration and production projects, e.g., from exploring for hydrocarbons under salt canopies to drilling through 3,000 m of salt. Further, Gerardo is the co-founder of the Young Professionals Summit and advises student chapters across Europe; helping fellow young professionals and future geoscientists to kick off their careers and explore different career paths.

Rudy Felix Ferreira

PPSA

He is a geologist graduated from the Federal University of Bahia in 1981 (GEOPET – Petrobras Agreement). He holds an MBA in Oil and Gas from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2000-2001) and attended the StanfordExecutive Program (SEP) at Stanford University, USA, in 2007. He began his managerial career as Head of the Geology Area at Braspetro, a position he held from 1991 until 2001, when Braspetro was incorporated into Petrobras. From 2002to May 2004 he was Non-Operated Assets Manager for the Nigeria Business Unit, based in Rio de Janeiro. In June 2004 he was expatriated to Nigeria asExploration Manager, a position he held until August 2006. He was appointed Managing Director of the Nigeria Business Unit in September 2006, holding this position until June 2009, when the Akpo and Agbami discoveries went into production. From July 2009 to August 2010, he was Manager of Regional Studies at INTER-TEC/EXP. He was again expatriated to Portugal in September 2010, where he held the Exploration Management of PIB-POR until November 2012. Here turned to Brazil in December 2012, as General Manager of Project Management at INTER-AL/GP, until May 2015. With the incorporation of international activities to E&P, from June 2015 to August 2016 he held the Project Management position of E&P-INTER/ASUL/PROJ and from September 2016 to March 2018 the PostInvestment Coordination (CPINV) of TAR/ASUL. In March 2018 he was expatriated to Mexico as Chief Executive Officer of Petrobras Mexico and GeneralManager of PTD Servicios Multiples, a position he held until September 2019, when he returned to Brazil and continued in activities related to Mexico as SpecialCoordinator until April 30, 2020. On May 18, 2020, he resigned from Petrobras. OnJune 1, 2020, he joined Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A.-PPSA as ExplorationSuperintendent.

Lúcio Prevatti

SHELL

He is currently the General Manager for Exploration in Brazil. He is a geologist by background and brings a wealth of experience after 23 years in various roles in Exploration, Development and Unconventionals. He joined Shell in 2002 as Exploration Geologist and since have worked as Operations Geologist, Exploration Geoscientist, Subsurface Coordinator, Team Lead, Exploration and Development Manager, in several ventures in Rio and Houston

Márcio Spínola

Halliburton Brazil 

He is currently Landmark Tech Leader at Halliburton Brazil Technology Center (HBTC) in Rio, has collaborated operators in applied research, development and innovation projects applied to pre-salt and post-sal challenges. Márcio has 26 years of industry experience joined HALLIBURTON in 2000. Before worked in Brazil National Petroleum Agency (ANP) and PETROBRAS/CENPES with FUNCAMP. During his career worked as geoscientist involved with exploration and reservoir consulting, business, product development and tech center leadership.  Márcio is geophysicist from University of Sao Paulo (USP), Master of Science from UNICAMP and MBA from FGV. He is currently UFRJ Tech Park counsel and coordinator of ABESPetro R&D workgroup.

Ricardo Lykawka

Petrobras

Holds a master’s degree in geology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and has 18 years of experience in the oil industry, working for Petrobras. During this period, since the exploratory phase, he has been involved in subsurface analyses of different pre-salt areas, working for 5 years as a reservoir geology advisor and 6 years as a reservoir manager. He is currently the manager of the reservoir team responsible for identifying opportunities for production development projects in the Tupi, Sapinhoá and Mexilhão fields
