NSG Conference 2020 Moves Fully Online
After our initial move to co-locate NSG2020 with the 82nd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, this decision has been made in light of the continued global health concerns and the travel and quarantine restrictions which remain in most countries to contain the COVID-19 virus. The current situation still carries a great deal of risk and uncertainty for an international gathering of our size and international attendance.
At the same time, we want to ensure our Near Surface Community has a platform to meet this year. For this reason, we believe this is the most fitting approach for the well-being of our global audience.
We can imagine you are curious what an online NSG will look like. The NSG 2020 website is updated with all the latest information, including Frequently Asked Questions. We will also reach out in separate correspondence to accepted speakers and corporate partners to inform how this affects participation in the NSG 2020.
In the months leading up to NSG 2020 online, we will provide you with regular updates on our process, what to expect and how to engage with the technical programme and our corporate partners. Together with your support, we are confident a successful and engaging programme can be established.

After the recent government imposed restrictions on large scale events in Serbia, EAGE has made the decision to move the Near Surface Geoscience Conference & Exhibition to Amsterdam, The Netherlands on 7-11 December 2020. The event will now be co-located with EAGE's Annual Conference & Exhibition at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre.
This has been a difficult decision but necessary to ensure the health and safety of our attendees, as well as the quality of the event. Our community is our number one priority and while we were initially encouraged by the local progress in controlling the COVID-19 outbreak, it recently became clear that the event was no longer feasible. Furthermore, we would like to thank the Local Advisory Committee for their hard work and efforts put into making Near Surface Geoscience a successful event in Belgrade, Serbia.
Given the special circumstances this year, participants that wish to attend either NSG2020 or the 82nd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, will have access to both technical programmes and exhibitions under one fee. We are working as speedily as possible on clarifying the specifics of the new programme. As this may take time, we trust everyone will bear with us while we confirm the details. We are committed to providing information as soon as it is available and will be making regular contact with all participants via direct mailing. We are confident that intending visitors, exhibitors and sponsors will understand the reasons for this decision and sincerely hope all those involved will be able to join us in December.

In light of recent developments, the Near Surface Geoscience Conference & Exhibition 2020 will no longer continue as scheduled for 30 August - 3 September in Belgrade, Serbia.
While we were initially positive in our outlook for this event, recent changes in the local situation including an increase in COVID-19 cases and new government imposed bans on public gatherings have made it impossible to safely carry out this event.
We have received a strong interest in the event from the community and are currently investigating alternatives for how the technical programme and event can be safely and effectively delivered. More details will be communicated in the coming days/weeks via email and on our website.
As an organization we do our best to monitor the current situation and prioritize the safety of our members. Kindly note that this announcement has no bearing on other scheduled events as each situation is determined on a case-by-case basis.

As we are drawing closer to the Near Surface Geoscience Conference & Exhibition, we are looking forward to having a successful event. With the technical programme on it's way to being finalised (more than 180 accepted papers, and 100 potential presenters indicating they plan to attend) and a returning exhibition, we are confident in this year's edition in Belgrade, Serbia.
Although the past few months have been challenging, we have been in close contact with the venue and our suppliers to make sure we deliver the Near Surface Geoscience Conference & Exhibition in the best possible conditions. Our priority is the health and safety of our community, exhibitors and participants all together. That is why we have summarised the following information for you. Please read these points carefully and keep checking this website in the coming months to make sure that you do not miss any updates.

The Venue's Measures
Enabling the personal well-being of guests and colleagues is key. IHG is working closely with a team of medical experts at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic to develop guidance and resources for hotel teams on returning to work and keeping guests safe in this new environment, which may include:
• Cleanliness information in hotels and on IHG’s booking channels
• Social distancing operating procedures and signage
• Guidance on the use of protective equipment as necessary by hotel colleagues
• Updated colleague training and certification
• Availability of individual guest amenity cleaning kits
• Hand sanitiser and disinfecting wipes available in guest rooms and at high-touch points throughout hotels

The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn have brought unprecedented challenges for attendees, exhibitors and for us as organizers. However, throughout these difficult times, our focus and priority have remained the health and safety of our EAGE community.
We are increasingly confident that the Near Surface Geoscience Conference & Exhibition will continue as planned between 30 August – 3 September 2020 in Belgrade, Serbia. Entry restrictions have been lifted for persons entering Serbia (normal visa requirements still apply). There are also no mandatory requirements for self quarantine in place. However, travelers should follow the latest immigration advisories and also be prepared for any changes in restrictions.
As of 5 June, the Serbian government has increased the maximum group size for indoor events from 100 to 500 people per meeting. We look forward to hosting the event in a safe and comfortable environment, but rest assured that we will issue immediate notice if advised that the event is no longer appropriate in the current environment. We are closely cooperating with our partners and following the guidelines indicated by the Serbian government to ensure a safe and successful event. The Crowne Plaza Hotel is also implementing enhanced measures.
Going back to 2004 - the first time the NSG meeting was organized by EAGE - the Near Surface Geoscience Conference & Exhibition has a longstanding history within the Association. Especially in recent years, with the inclusion of our parallel conference programmes from 2014 onwards, the meeting series sees an increase in both scientific scope and attendance.
We are looking forward to continue working on this with the upcoming meeting in Belgrade. We realize you may have questions and concerns in the lead up to the event. After all, this will be a conference like no other. You can expect frequent updates from our side in the period leading up to the Conference & Exhibition. EAGE would like to make clear that we are carefully monitoring the possible impact of any further spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) on all our scheduled events. Our first priority is the health and welfare of the wider EAGE community. Based on the advice of the World Health Organization, as well as appropriate national and local authorities, EAGE has thus far been broadly unaffected by the outbreak, with relatively little disruption to our global operations.
However as a global organization EAGE hosts events all around the world, and monitors each local context and decides policy for each event on a case-by-case basis. If you are attending, or planning to attend an event with EAGE, please consult the specific event website for the most up-to-date information and guidelines. Find your event at: www.events.eage.org.
All intending participants at upcoming meetings should be assured that we will issue immediate notice if advised that a particular conference, workshop, etc. is no longer appropriate in the current environment.
In the meantime we would suggest that members follow current assessments of the impact of the COVID-19 as indicated by the WHO on its website. If traveling, immigration advisories issued by individual countries should also be checked.
