Meet Our Keynote Speaker!

Luc Sandjivy, Seisquare

Abstract Title: Quantifying Uncertainty in Depth Imaging: Issues and Challenges

Dr Luc Sandjivy is an entrepreneur with 30-year experience in spreading the use of geostatistics in the oil industry. In 1975, Luc graduated both from the Nancy school of Geology (France) and Quebec University (Canada). He was been mentored by Pr Georges Matheron, the founder of geostatistics and completed his PhD thesis on Factorial Kriging in 1987 at the School of Mines of Paris. Since then, Luc has been the founding CEO of Geovariances company (1986), Earth Resource Management Services _ERM.S_ in 1993 and Seisquare in 2005, providing services to major oil & gas companies, with operational recognition from clients, and winning awards for his contribution in research and innovation. To day, as Seisquare Chief Evangelist, Luc is very proud to pioneer the digital revolution for sustainable and profitable Earth Resource Management and he is coaching E&P teams to match their E&P Big Data Challenges.

Konstantin Osypov,

Aramco Americas Research Center

Abstract Title: Quantifying Uncertainty in Depth Imaging: From Rays to Waves

Konstantin Osypov got Ph.D. in Geophysics from St.Petersburg University in 1992. After postdocs in Uppsala University and Colorado School of Mines, he joined Western Geophysical in Denver, USA, in 1997 as a Research Geophysicist. He had multiple assignments with Schlumberger in USA and Russia. From 2014 to 2019, he worked in Strategic Research Unit of Earth Science Department at Energy Technology Company of Chevron. Since 2019, he has been Team Lead, Geophysics Technology, at Aramco Americas Research Center in Houston, USA.

John T. Etgen, BP

Abstract Title: How do we begin to have a proper conversation about uncertainty

John T. Etgen received a B.S. in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1985 and a Ph. D. in Geophysics from Stanford University in 1990. During his studies he had the good fortune to work on a wide variety of topics in seismic imaging and data processing. His thesis studied new-at-the-time prestack migration-driven tomographic techniques for velocity estimation.  He began his industrial career in late 1990 at the Amoco Production Research Company in Tulsa Oklahoma working on a wide variety of topics in seismic imaging and seismic data acquisition. In 1999 Amoco merged with bp and John moved to Houston. His role was Senior Scientist and then Senior Scientific Advisor for seismic imaging in BP. In 2008, he and Carl Regone were awarded the Virgil Kauffman medal for their work in wide-azimuth marine seismic. In late 2011 John was appointed Distinguished Advisor for Seismic Imaging in BP. John is currently Senior Assistant Editor for the scientific journal Geophysics. He continues to work on behalf of technology organizations at BP.

Alecia Wawrzynski,

ExxonMobil Upstream Integrated Solutions

Abstract Title: Imaging Depth Uncertainty from an Interpreters Perspective: Implications from Processing to Assessment

Alecia Wawrzynski received a B.A. in Geology from SUNY at Buffalo in 1990 and Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Wyoming in 1999.  Her studies focused on utilizing remote sensing data to detect structural and mineralization processes, which has some analogs to seismic interpretation.  After starting with ExxonMobil in 1999, she worked as an interpreter in production and soon became involved in acquisition and processing efforts.   Interpretation assignments continued across the Middle East, then moved to Canada.  She has worked on major processing efforts in the GOM, Southern Iraq, East Coast Canada, and Kazakhstan.  She is currently the geologic advisor to the processing core group in ExxonMobil Upstream Integrated Solutions and continues to be an advisor and advocate for developing new software solutions for the future.
